Loud daughter

This is slightly light hearted but my daughter has come back from Uni and she is so loud. I love seeing her.. she’s funny, clever and loves debating but she’s giving me headaches! I’m quite used to just me and the dog at home during the day. She gets really annoyed if I asked her to talk a bit quietly. I suffer from migraines and am very noise sensitive.. I don’t want to offend her but it’s getting to the point I have to leave the room. Any ideas?

Get some loop earbuds, they come highly reccomended on lots of noise posts.
Has she always been loud or are you just used to the quiet now she's gone for long periods of time?

It's rather unkind of her to be annoyed with you, if she knows you are sensitive to noise. Are you a bit of a martyr to her moods OP?

I'd spell it out: You get migraines and it's painful for you when anybody speaks loudly. And her voice does sound loud to you, even if it doesn't to her. You'd really appreciate it if she tried to speak more quietly than she's used to.

You might get a few rolleyes, but remind her that she'll be older one day!

I’m no martyr at all. The migraines started in the last year so quite a new thing. I’ll talk to her again..

Tell her to use her indoor voice.

What's her hearing like? Maybe she can't actually hear herself properly.

Does she have hearing issues? Does she have frequent colds which might impact her hearing?

You need to spell it out to her that she needs to adapt her volume to her surroundings. If she is unable to do that I’d ask her to get her hearing checked. It could be as simple as that she has earwax build up blocking her ears, or ear infections/ sinus issues affecting her hearing.
