Adelaide for a week

PerkyOchrePeer · 27/03/2026 09:21

absolutely love south australia. I have been ti adelaide twice and seen most of the tourist sites. If I went again I would go for a week just to relax and soak up the atmosphere. I know adelaude very well so it wouldn't be a case of finding my way around because I know what's where and stepping out of my hotel I would know where I want to go and how to get there without having to look at a map just like I can navigate round my own home town.
Would it be worth it for a week

A long haul flight, the expense and jet lag? No, definitely not worth it for a week. I live here and would need a minimum 3 weeks to make a trip home to UK worthwhile. I wouldn’t suggest spending 3 weeks in Adelaide but a week here and then onto Sydney and Melbourne or the Sunshine Coast.

I said, in my message, I love Adelaide. I don't want to go to other places because i've been to those places before and didn't like them

Dn’t bother. Go over to the Australia/New Zealand thread for background. The OP has been to Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide. Seemingly, is okay with Perth, loves Adelaide and can’t abide Melbourne or Sydney. Weirdly, this is based on a very narrow experience of Sydney/NSW, Melbourne/Vic and Perth/NSW. Adelaide is the only place they can possibly go in Australia, despite never having experienced places like the Reef, Kakadu, Katherine, Kimberley, Monkey Mia, let alone a wider experience of Sydney/Melbourne than the bits they didn’t like.

It’s mind blowing for example, that someone who likes Adelaide cannot abide the Blue Mouhtsins or places like Berry, Bowral, Atherton tablelands etc but that’s what we are told (strongly!).

It seems the only acceptable location is Adelaide, in a specific hotel, where they know the streets/areas around the hotel. Therefore, the correct response is ‘yes, go to Adelaide for a week’.

I lived in Adelaide for a year and also love it but are you flying from New Zealand or the UK? The travel distance would be the clue to the answer really. If you mean you would fly and land in Ade and be there for 7 full days before you leave again then yes but if you are leaving say England on a Sunday and landing back the following Sunday then no.

Scripturient · 27/03/2026 11:17

What @HoppingPavlova said. In the teeth of all possible common sense, but this poster has spectacularly rigid modes of thought, and not just about travel.

You might think that flying for a full day and dealing with jet lag to spend a week somewhere they've already been to twice, before spending a full day flying back home again is mad, but not for @PerkyOchrePeer.

Can I have a link to the AUstralia/NZ thread. I am not keen on very big cities. Sydney is too busy for me. I went there 20 years ago to visit relatives who live on the outskirts of the city in Beacon Hills. Ive looked at Melbourne and again the CBD is too busy. Last year I went to Brisbane but was not very keen. I like Perth

Hope whilst there you've had the opportunity to explore the Adelaide Hills area which is really quite beautiful

Adelaide is a boring shit hole. The end.

It really really is not. Plenty to do and see in Adelaide and the hills dont be a dick.

Hills are nice. City is shit and boring. Lived there for a couple of years. Would never ever go back. Suburbs are a scummy warzone. Every roundabout is a v6 commodore doughnut arena.

Honestly believe Adelaide is the worst place in Australia. It's no wonder the aus government still incentivise immigrants to live there.

If you want to go to Adelaide for a week then go to Adelaide for a week. I wouldn’t, but that doesn’t mean you can’t. You don’t need permission.

NannyR · 27/03/2026 15:58

If you would really enjoy this as a holiday, then go. For me, for the cost of the flight, I would want to do and see a bit more to make it worthwhile - even a city break stopover somewhere like Singapore.

CrepuscularCritter · 27/03/2026 16:13

My mum lived there for a few years and I always loved to visit her. The city is full of chill vibes and the whole pool to beach lifestyle is great to decompress. I'd head up to the Barossa Valley too.

For just one week? Maybe, especially if you go via Changi and cross the Big Red Centre in daylight. That's stunning, and we'll worth the short stay.

GingerBeverage · 27/03/2026 19:39

This sounds like a low budget marketing campaign for Adelaide, or is the preferred term still RADelaide?
Do visit the wonders of the mall in Elizabeth.

But seriously, how many threads on Australia are you contracted to start?
