As a family we're going through a mentally difficult time. I know things could be a lot worse and I do "count my blessings" but for goodness sake, things are dreary on lots of fronts. Lots of stress, little joy.

What has helped you get through mentally draining times?

Sleep. Lots and lots of sleep

Fitting in self care whenever I can and making the most of the little things. It's very unique though, some things work for some and not at all for others.

Letting go of what you can let go. The house can be messy. Social obligations can be unmet.

if you have money, use it for conveniences like easy meals. If not, still look for shortcuts where you can.

It depends on what type of hard times.

We've had quite a few in our house.

If physically able keeping up a very minimal routine to keep the house tidy. NOT CLEAN necessarily but not too cluttered helps

I've found a cheap SAD lamp from amazon has done amazing things for my mental health.

If you can afford it, buy ready made or part prepared food so thinking what to make/eat isn't such an issue and its partly healthy. Also remember oats, fruit and yogurt/beans on toast/eggs x 10 ways are a meal.

Clothes dont need ironed they just need washed. Tumble dry if you have one.
Again just try and keep on top of it.
It sounds too much but it helps a lot when things just drag on forever

Take any help offered (i know a lot of time it isn't, but if it is say yes)

Also dont be afraid to ask for help- my lovely neighbour took my son to school for 2 years when I couldnt walk the 3 mins to the school. She was going anyway, but it was a HUGE help

Hooe things turn round for you soon
