What are / have people used for perimenopause and would recommend? My doctor is obsessed everyone will get pregnant so is most in favour of mirena coil but I dont want that pain!

I’m onto my 3rd Mirena and it has been fab for me.

I had very few menopause symptoms apart from occasional overheating but I’m not sure if that is due to the Mirena or just good luck n

I have oestrogen gel and progesterone tablets plus a mirena

I had a mirena coil, it needed changing as it had expired. The GP couldn't get the new one back in, on 2 different attempts. Gutted as the coil was great!
I was on oestrogen patches anyway. I now also take both desogesterol (contraception) and progesterone tablets (as part of my HRT) instead of the coil.

OP what is the pain you want to avoid? Is it the insertion of the coil? Or something else?

I had one, it was the only thing that controlled my horrendous periods. Best thing I ever did

Hi. I have to get mine fitted at the local hospital due to my cervix tilting the wrong way. Also have my smears there too.

My cervix was too narrow, apparently. I wasn't going for a third try, even at the local sexual health place which the GP offered. I've had various issues with my cervix before, didn't fancy any more prodding!

I had a mirena after DC2 but there’s a chance it contributed to the horrible anxiety and general mental-ness (I know, not a very acceptable term but I don’t know how else to describe my experience) I had for about 6 years. So I wasn’t keen to repeat the experience.

I have a copper coil for contraception (and supplement with ferrous bisglycinate because these periods are Heavy), and was on the combined patches (worked well but some squiffy bits) but have just switched to oestradiol patch and utrogestan tablets (so far so good).

It might be suboptimal, but as far as I can tell all contraception is suboptimal somwhere. But it’s working.

Sometimes I think I should get my tubes tied, but then I think if they’re going in they should whip them right out (salpingectomy?) - because as far as I know what we think of as ‘ovarian’ cancer is actually often caused by oviduct and if you’re clipping them you may as well whip them out, right? But I suspect the NHS won’t go for that. And it’s surgery. And so I haven’t looked into it properly.

I had a copper coil out last year and the dr was going to put mirena in then buit the removal hurt like hell, and then she couldn't get the new coil in.
