Can a dress bodice be taken out after being taken in?

Dumb question for seamstresses.

I can only really sew on a button so excuse my ignorance. I'm also aware you may not even be able to answer this.

If I had got a dress 'taken in' around the bodice and then put it some weight on, is it theoretically possible to get it 'taken out'? Or does something being 'taken in' generally mean fabric has been removed that can't be put back?

I'm trying to work out whether I want to ask the very nice seamstress who did this work that question or whether I'll look like an absolute idiot. I thought I'd try it here first.

Depends on how much allowance the tailor left on the seams when it was taken in. Turn it inside out and see if there is any excess fabric along the seams.

On a bodice, there are panels, so it may be possible to insert a couple of extra panels (one on each side for balance) depending on how much weight you gained. The extra panels would not be exactly the same so you’d have to think on whether you wanted the fabric for them to be similar or contrasting.

Thank you both so much, I'll have a good look at the dress but it sounds like it's not a completely daft question to ask her at least.

There might be a bit of wiggle room depending on the allowance left and how it was taken in. How soon after it being taken in is this? 😂

It’s not daft to ask.
