Yorkshire loose leaf tea tastes better than the t bags, don’t ask me why

Definitely Yorkshire tea.
I wouldn't serve visitors instant coffee. Get some ground coffee and a mokapot.

Urgh, no. Twinings, never Yorkshire 🤢

Riverpaddling · 23/03/2026 23:18

I'm not a fan of Yorkshire tea, I'd always go for Twinings English Breakfast.

Depends on whether you want a strong solid cup or a more delicate flavour. I like a proper strong cup of tea.

Can't help with the coffee, horrible stuff. For tea I recommend Williamson's Lifeboat tea and Williamson's Duchess Grey. Both wonderful, and IMO better than Fortnums. A selection pack of fruit/herbal teas would be good too, I think Twinings do one.

Beautifulscribbles · 23/03/2026 23:20

Without a doubt TrueStart Coffee! Also Yorkshire Tea.

Not Azera - it's Nestle rubbish.

I likE PG tips, twinings earl grey and coffee bags

Are you me?

DiscoBeat · 24/03/2026 00:36

I hate instant coffee. We have stainless steel cafetieres in different sizes and decent ground coffee.
The tea we us we is Earl Grey, Yorkshire Gold, fruit teas and green tea.

Snowwhitesnow · 24/03/2026 00:53

I don’t like coffee bags, they always leave a residue in bottom of mug. If I was visiting a friend or family I would drink whatever was on offer!
Earl grey or any tea bags. If I was family or friends and knew you didn’t drink I would bring my own!

ExOptimist · 24/03/2026 01:05

You could also get some decaffeinated tea bags. I'd also suggest getting some decaf ground coffee too and keep it in the freezer. For decaf instant Nescafe azera decaf americano makes a decent drink.

SugarPuffSandwiches · 24/03/2026 02:29

We're big tea drinkers in this house!
I personally can't function properly without Earl Grey.
DH loves his Yorkshire Gold Tea or Ringtons Gold.
English Breakfast is always a good tea as well.

Twinings English Breakfast is lovely

I use coffee bags for when we have guests. My family (coffee snobs) think they’re good.

I recommend coffee bags too. Instant goes off really quickly once you've opened it, so it's not much good if you only use it occasionally. Plus it doesn't taste like coffee 😁 Coffee bags in individual sealed bags stay fresh for ages.

PetsPalace · 24/03/2026 03:02

If you're talking about specific people, ask them what they like and hopefully any other visitors will be happy with their choices too?
I wanted to like coffee bags but I didn't, they're a bit weird. I don't think they'd be everyone's cup of tea!
I use an Aeropress to make a mug of coffee (black Americano style) from a bag of ground because it's just me that wants coffee, it doesn't take up much space, it's easy to use and to travel with. The one I use wouldn't be good for lots of people but perhaps they do larger ones.
I like Rooibos (Red Bush) tea and it gets lots of attention at my partner's work. Invariably people want to try it, love it and then buy their own supply so it's become quite popular at his various work places. It has less tannins in it so doesn't dry your mouth like black tea can and you don't need milk. It might be worth considering.

FreshAirandSunshine · 24/03/2026 03:09

Yorkshire Gold for tea.

JMSA · 24/03/2026 03:22

Teapigs tea is lovely.

Their Strong Earl Grey 🤤

Topseyt123 · 24/03/2026 03:52

Yorkshire tea in this house.

I usually have coffee from my coffee machine, which uses Tassimo pods.

Everything is made in mugs. I do have a few cups and saucers, but mostly use the saucers as plates.

Chimnee · 24/03/2026 06:21

Honestly I wouldn’t worry about it. I am a tea and coffee snob and am extremely fussy about what I drink (and which cup I use) at home but when I go to visit friends I take whatever is on offer. I’m there to see them, not to judge them on their beverage options. Most people I visit offer me tea (often pg tips or supermarket own) or coffee (usually instant, sometimes a pod) in a mug. I don’t expect them to have a range of tea choices or a variety of milk for me.
This thread clearly shows you can’t please everyone, and honestly, people aren’t expecting you to have their favourite brand of coffee!

I'm gonna buy ground and keep it in the freezer once opened

Sorry for being dense everyone, I just got myself into an overthinking spiral 😅

I'm thinking of local mums popping in here and there and being completely unprepared with only squash in 🙈

I've never had local mums popping in without notice. You may find it doesn't happen (or if they do briefly come in, it's a quick drop off / pick up without time for a drink).

A variety of milks really isn't necessary.

MyOtherProfile · 24/03/2026 07:39

I'm wondering if you've just had a baby or just moved to a new place. It's very kind of you to think about all this. I'm sure people will appreciate it.

caringcarer · 24/03/2026 08:02

I hate Yorkshire tea it taste stewed and too strong. I prefer Morrisons decafe tea and for instant coffee Nescafé Gold blend, but I prefer Lavazza coffee in BTC machine.

somanychristmaslights · 24/03/2026 08:04

100% Yorkshire tea!!

queenofwandss · 24/03/2026 08:12

OP I often have the Kenco latte sachets at work. You could buy a box of them for about £2 and they last ages.

Yorkshire tea is for those of us who like a good strong cuppa. It's a matter of taste. Some prefer a lighter flavour.

ApolloandDaphne · 24/03/2026 08:27

Coffee bags are too weak if you like strong black coffee as I do. If I can't have ground coffee then I go for Nescafé Gold.
