Melin Tregwynt blanket question

I have a Melin Tregwynt blanket which I bought in 2007 so not quite vintage yet. It’s in excellent condition but one small section of the blanket stitch decorative edging has unravelled. Do you think it would still attract buyers and what kind of price point would you go for?

It’s sis Double and costs now £410 😳.

Depends on the design and style. It will sell at the right price.

I am always interested in Melin Tregwynt blankets which are lower priced due to slight defects. If I was to buy I would be interested in the colours and design but also the price-factoring in getting it dry cleaned. If the total came to over £250 I’d probably look at buying new to get my preference.

I prefer the more traditional Welsh blankets but I like the idea. The unravelled stitching wouldn't bother me but I'd expect it to be cheaper because of it.

Thanks for the replies! I noticed my typo too late, it was meant to say that it’s size “double”, 250cm x 260cm. It’s big and heavy.

The design is Broadstripe in oatmeal.

I had a good look of the unravelled stitching, it’s only about 4cm long section. I could repair some of it myself, it’s not very noticeable but it is there if you know where to look.

Do you need to sell it? I'm no expert but I don't think you'd get much for it - maybe £100. A patterned one like Knotgarden would fetch much more.

The appeal for me is that it is Welsh, artisanal, wool and patterned. The one I have is a vintage one in a traditional pattern in a distinctive colour.
They're a bit 'every Welsh home on tv has one'. Smile

Obviously, your throw is Welsh, artisanal and wool, and very nice, but it's not distinctively Welsh.
I'd hang on to it but the 'Melin Tregwynt' label will sell it.

WendyFromTransvisionWamp · 23/03/2026 15:29

Yeah I wish I had bought the knot garden back in the day. It’s so lovely.
I don’t need to sell it in order to make cash, it is just very heavy, big and not used or needed any longer.

If it was me selling it, I'd list it 'Buy it now', be brave and ask for £250. (you can drop the price if no interest.
For Make a bid, I'd ask for £150, If 2 people want it you'll get more.
If no interest, drop the price.
I've only sold on ebay and not much is selling right now, unfortunately.
It would sell quickly on Vinted, but you'd probably get CF low offers.

I'd word it something like
Melin Tregwynt Double 250 x 260 cm Blanket
Pure wool traditional Welsh heavy mill-woven artisanal blanket to cover a double bed. Broadstripe design in a bold/soft blue/whatever stripe. Made in Britain.
Melin Tregwynt produces Welsh blankets, throws and tapestry in Wales and has collaborations with Toast and JW Anderson. The distinctive throws are popular with hotels and interior designers. Every good Welsh home has a carthen.

(I'd polish it up a bit but YKWIM)

Ooh brilliant, thanks a lot for that! I think I’ll go with Ebay with this one and see if anyone bites!

I’m very much tempted to use the (possible) profit towards the Knot Garden 😍 (strictly the throw size!).

Thanks. I mentioned Toast, Welsh tapestry and carthen as it will get you views.

Look at Welsh tapestry and Melin Tregwynt on ebay.

I also have more than one taranta. They are lovely but they are single bed size.
They are Italian blankets similar to the Welsh tapestry ones in weight but probably merino wool.

Oh I had never heard of them, had a Google and my bank account is now crying!

Melin Tregwynt Welsh Blanket | Catkin/Charcoal | TOAST
Welsh Tapestry Knot Garden Throws and Blankets Melin Tregwynt

They're likely to be cheaper if you buy from the mill not JL or Toast.
