Is it too late to give neighbours Eid cupcakes on Sunday?

Hi,

I planned on making my neighbours some cupcakes as they’re celebrating Eid. (I was a cake maker in a previous life). Annoyingly, I’ve had a D&V bug since Weds - no vomiting or diarrhoea since late last night - which means I won’t be ‘safe’ to bake until Sunday. Will this be too late to give them to them?

I was all prepared, making sure I’d got in halal ingredients and some toppers (also made my own before I was ill) so I’ll be gutted if I’m too late!

No, not too late, I'm sure they'll appreciate the gift. It's a nice gesture

StolenTeapots · 20/03/2026 21:49

No. Sounds lovely

No absolutely lovely gesture! I wouldn’t mind getting a Christmas gift like this off a neighbour a couple of days late!

Thanks everyone! They always get us some chocolates or biscuits at Christmas and last year I got the kids some sweets and colouring things, so thought I’d do the cakes this time.

What are the halal ingredients? I’m a (hobby) baker, all of my ingredients are halal because they’re vegetarian. What did you need to buy specially out of interest?

I’m not being goady by the way, it’s a genuine question because I’d hate to mess up, particularly as my best friend is Muslim and she is chief taste tester Grin

Mainly just the vanilla essence. A lot of them contain alcohol so are no good. Preema is a halal brand, and Dr. Oetker do a couple of safe ones too. Then I used some gold lustre dust to paint on some moons and stars and normally I’d use alcohol to make the paint but in this case, I’ve just used lemon juice. And I got a Colour Mill colour as they’re halal as well. 😊

Thank you! That’s really helpful. I’ve just checked my vanilla and it is indeed Preema. I’ve also just pulled out all of my food colourings too to check in a panic I’d overlooked something.

Thank you so much for replying! You’ve put my mind at rest.

I hope your neighbours enjoy their cupcakes. It’s such a lovely gesture ❤️

I’d say it’s actually perfect as guests would have bought loads of sweets on eid day anyway. Your lovely cupcakes can get their time to shine this way :)

Not at all! Eid is a 3 day festival! You sound lovely OP!

I could be wrong but I don’t think this is what halal means. You’re talking about stuff that’s alcohol free.

Halal just means “permissible” under Islamic law, and can also apply to alcohol.

Oh ok I thought it applied to meat. Thank you for clarifying
