What would you do with 72 hours to yourself?

I officially have the entire weekend and part of Monday totally free, no work and no child just me and pets and nothing planned or booked. Looking for inspiration as to what you would do with a full 72 hours to yourself? I cant go away anywhere as nobody to mind pets but open to all ideas. I live close enough to both city and country/beach.

As its nice weather I would go on a nice walk or bike ride at my pace. I would go antiques ans vintage shopping. Buy some nice food and have a picky tea. I might play the piano a bit. I'd do some tidying up but not too much. Maybe a manicure. I'd do some reading as well maybe outside in the garden. I would also have siestas. Maybe dinner with friends or a day trip

HawthornFairy · 20/03/2026 13:53

Long walk or cycle ride, lunch in a cafe stroll round the charity shops, maybe cinema or theatre. Oh and garden, and have a catch up with best friend or siblings/family.

Enjoy.

spilltheteapot · 20/03/2026 13:53

What an opportunity! It depends what condition your life is in. Do you need to restore order to your life or do you need an adventure? Definitely take some time to do things you enjoy as well as any housework or life admin that needs to be done.

Iliketulips · 20/03/2026 14:00

As others have said, a walk or cycle ride. Lunch or coffee out either locally or in town. Maybe a day trip out. See a friend. Just watch what I want on tv and definitely reading. Some people might enjoy going to cinema.

Nitgel · 20/03/2026 14:01

Sit on my arse and watch old TV and films.

IfyouStealMySunshine · 20/03/2026 14:03

Id plan it based on weather.

If it was me I’d spend this afternoon getting house clean, mow the grass, go to M&S for lots of nice food and watch lord of the rings with a feast tonight.

Tomorrow I’d get on all trails to plan in a good circular walk and take along M&S leftovers for picnic bits. I’d also tie in stopping for coffee/pint/ice cream en route.

Tomorrow I’d invite friends round for a takeaway and a drink in the evening.

Sunday weather looks crap so Id do a smaller walk. Then go the cinema to watch Project Hail Mary. Get a food shop delivered and do some food prep with Prosecco to feel smug for the week ahead.

Monday I’d have a lazy start in bed, go the gym and feel ready to start the week.

VineandIvy · 20/03/2026 14:06

Spa day, facial, massage and swim, a walk, picky tea, vintage/garden shop potter, new pjs. Delivered groceries full of handy quick meals to keep the calm vibes going for the week ahead.

Vague location?

East coast of Ireland :)

I have absolutely no idea what I'd on the east coast of Ireland. But I would probably go into London and have a nice day visiting an exhibition and a spot of shopping. I'd get a couple of runs in, read a book, watch some of the many things I've got recorded and never get round to watching, I'd probably arrange to meet a friend for a walk and a chat. Pretty much what I am doing this weekend actually, minus the day in London.

canuckup · 20/03/2026 14:24

Not my neck of the woods 😂 but I bet it's beautiful

Ladyofleisure26 · 20/03/2026 14:26

It is a stunner of a day out. I have the doors and windows open to let in lovely fresh air after decades of winter. No bike but I am considering harnessing up the hound and walking to the beach maybe grab a bag of chips for myself on the way back. The cleaning can go to hell till Monday.

A walk followed by a session in the gym and a run, then some yoga. A bit of book reading, followed by a craft class and/or a coffee with friends and then a solo cinema trip. At some point the diy at home spa thing.
Next day gym and run. Home delivery of food. Spot of diy at home or a trip to local museum which has various pottery demonstrations. Laundry. Catch up on book reading, evening out at line dancing. Yoga, tv, shower and bed.
final day. Housework and garden tidy up. Gym and run, game of Pilates with a friend and a coffee. Probably a swim too. Evening spent catching up on household paperwork - bills to pay etc/ emails to be answered/ phone a friend.

Groundhogday2025 · 20/03/2026 14:27

I’d spend the first half to three quarters of the first day absolutely blitzing the house, doing all the jobs you’ve been wanting to do but not got round to like cleaning the oven etc. and doing a big shop.
That sets you in good stead to actually be able to enjoy the rest of the weekend without feeling like you should be doing something else (tidy house, tidy mind and all that).
Then I’d spend the rest of the time watching something I like that I never get to watch with other people around (trashy TV or questionable romcoms), open a lovely bottle of wine/drink of choice, have a bath, nap if I felt like it. Then I’d get up leisurely on Sunday, go for a walk and brunch somewhere (probably the coast for me), mani-pedi and self care. Some yoga or Pilates. Schedule in a phone call with some long distance friends to have a proper catch up.
Probably get some kind of takeaway one of the nights too, ‘cause why not. Sounds heavenly.

Ladyofleisure26 · 20/03/2026 14:27

I am considering heading into Dublin tomorrow for a nice solo wander around a couple of museums, nice wine bar or seafood place. Not really in the mood of people just really enjoying the silence currently!

This is exactly what I would do!

Ladyofleisure26 · 20/03/2026 14:31

@Campbellcarrotsoup I was actually considering antique shop shopping on Sunday! We need nothing but a browse might be nice. Have the nails booked in for Monday afternoon :)

@IfyouStealMySunshine thats a great idea on the food delivery i will get cracking on that now for tomorrow actually!

I tried and failed to book in any spa treatments for the weekend as I left it too late to book and none of the places I like have availability. I was crying out for an indian head massage but tis not to be sadly. I might just have a long hot bath this evening though as i dont remember the last time that bath was used for anything but a shower. Hmmm candles and chocs in the bath has an appeal with my book and wine of course.

Do everything or nothing- whatever feels most hedonistic! Enjoy

Wexone · 20/03/2026 18:03

I live on the east coast of Ireland too. 😂 I would lock the doors and gate not allow anyone in. long hot bath this eve takeaway and wine. sleep on do a bit around house then watch my crap on TV and read in front of fire. then sleep more
am very jelouse 😂

mizu · 20/03/2026 18:33

Both my DDs are at uni so almost every weekend is like this for me now. I’m a full time teacher so knackered at the end of the week and it’s heaven choosing whether I meet up with friends or not. I love it and 2.5 years in am still not tiring of it.

I’m actually quite busy this weekend but if not, I’d do a long walk or bike ride. Eat out for lunch so I didn’t have to cook. Read in the bath and watch TV. Buy food that is for me and only me - still so good. Walk into town or potter in the garden.

GameOfJones · 20/03/2026 18:46

Oh gosh I'm so jealous!

Tonight I'd have a long bubble bath and change the bed so I could get into it feeling all fresh and clean which is the best feeling in the world!

Tomorrow I'd have a slow morning reading my book with a coffee and then I'd go for a potter round the shops to try on some new clothes for summer. Then in the mid afternoon I'd see if a friend wanted to go for a walk and a natter. If they weren't free I'd do my walk listening to a podcast. I'd also buy a bottle of wine and bar of chocolate for Saturday evening in front of the TV.

Sunday I would take myself for a look round the garden centre in the morning to buy a couple of bits for the garden and I'd make sure to stop in the café for a pot of tea and slice of cake. In the afternoon I'd go to the cinema on my own which I've only ever done twice but it felt like a total treat!

Sunday night I would cook something healthy but comforting like a noodle soup and I'd have an "everything shower" to do a face mask, exfoliate, shave, body lotion etc....the works.

Monday I'd be getting any jobs that needed doing sorted, laundry or cleaning or whatever so I was organised for the week ahead.

I'm very jealous now I've written that all down as I'm working tonight and have a weekend ferrying the children to their clubs! 🤣

Ladyofleisure26 · 20/03/2026 19:04

Fantastic ideas thanks all.
Day 1 today I brought the dog down the beach for a walk and popped into a rare dog friendly cafe for a coffee and some cake. Gave a scrub to the bathroom and changed my bedding and ordered myself a steak ciabata with pepper sauce and chips for delivery which is on its way and I have wine open. After dinner I shall take myself up for a nice soak in the bath and have a nice read then in bed with another glass of wine and a dairy milk I had here already. Tomorrow I am going for breakfast with a friend and will work from there. I thought I would feel guilty but I really really do not. What is seldom is wonderful :)
