Dh is pissed off I’ve called 111 thinks I’m being dramatic

Dd is 3 and atm she has a crackle on her chest and infection in both ears. Temp last night hit 40 degrees. Been okay on the day and playing aslong as she’s had calpol. Tonight gone to bed as usual but moaning a lot in her sleep so I gave her nurofen at about 10.30pm for the pain she was most likely experiencing from her ears.
Checked her temp before I went to bed and it’s 35 degrees, still switching between 35 - 35.3 - 35.6. Shitting myself about sepsis so I’ve called 111, someone is going to call back within the hour. Other than the temp she seems okay, albeit asleep. Hands and feet aren’t cold, she doesn’t even feel cold. Please someone tell me I’ve done the right thing ?!
My temp reads 37.1 so it’s not the thermometer

This is what 111 is for. You have done the right thing.

3691nd · 20/03/2026 00:22

So what is your daughter’s temperature now?Do her extremities feel cold ? If you are worried I would wait to see what the paramedics decide. Fingers crossed 🤞 X

Noshadelamp · 20/03/2026 00:22

Why is he pissed off though? There's no harm in ringing 111, that's what they're for. If anything he's the dramatic one for getting so annoyed with you.

He thinks he knows best, all the time

You’re going yo feel better when they call back and reassure you. Worth it.

This. I completely agree.

My late husband got annoyed when I had to phone 111. (He was a stroke victim with diabetes and a couple of times I couldn't take chances. Once he was given antibiotics over a weekend; another time I had to take him in for an x-ray when he accidentally swallowed a button battery.)

I've twice in my life had to call for myself. Once I was given reassurance; once I was given advice and meds to help with passing a kidney stone and the information passed to my surgery so that they could check that the stone had gone.

If you're at all worried about a little one, don't take chances. At least when you've had reassurance you'll be able to get some sleep.

I really hope they don’t say to take her anywhere she’ll be so so grumpy if I have to wake her up!! She’s asleep next to me on the sofa underneath a big blanket atm. Temp just said 35.6 and went green, so I’m hoping she’s warming up now. I think it was the nurofen ! Temp drops when we sleep anyway but I didn’t think it would do anything to her temp even more if it didn’t need lowering if that makes sense?!

Yes, that makes sense.

From what you say, they'll probably just reassure you.

Edited

If you gave her ibuprofen just as her fever broke it may have caused it to drop further than you expected. Along with the natural drop when asleep it’s just boosted the effect of the ibuprofen. It sounds like it’s coming ming back up. Just keep an eye on it and I’m sure 111 will give advice.

Tell your husband he can be as pissed off as he likes. If that’s how he chooses to conduct himself that’s unfortunate for him, but it makes no difference to you as you as you’ll look after your DC as you see appropriate. You’ve made the right choice. I hope your DC is ok x

Definitely seek medical advice. Ear infections can lead to perforated eardrums - happened to me. Excruciating, btw.
Crackling in the chest can be a few things, pneumonia and bronchitis to name two.
Children are vulnerable and need strong advocacy. Better to overreact and be safe than under react and be sorry.

Our GP was completely unbothered about perforated ear drums. When DS was about 3 we took him with an ear infection and we're told it would either get better in 24 hrs or his ear drum would burst which would stop the pain.
His ear drums have burst frequently. He was advised to swim with ear plugs but nobody was concerned.

He was open to ENT from 3-14 and seen regularly by a consultant.
When the holes in his ear drums do close over, there is the potential for them to burst again. When they are perforated they act like gromets to let the gunk out and relieve the infection.

Morning all, so she is awake and her temp is now 36.6 🫶
The doctor called and said 35 degrees is concerning but we also need to look at how she is, is she vomiting, lethargic, rash, no urine etc
She is absolutely fine in herself and smiling away. I asked if the nurofen could of caused her temp to dip so low and he said it possibly could of, but it shouldn’t do that, so god knows 🤷‍♀️ I think her temp runs around 36.5/37 anyways so maybe she just runs a little colder? Either way seeing that number was scary and I’m glad the doctor agreed it wasn’t normal and I didn’t overreact !

I'd seek other advice.

My mum and sister both now have hearing aids as a result of repeated ear infections as children. This is poor advice.
