Just wondering if anyone saves for the six week holidays and how much do you put away ?

I do but mainly because I’m a teacher so am off for the whole 6 weeks and it quickly gets spenny despite only doing a ‘big’ thing once or twice a week. I save £100 a month all year which works out about £1k but is only about £200 a week! X

How many kids do you have ?

I have a 5 year old who will be 6 and a baby. Last year I was basically working 3 days a week. I didn’t save and she spent alot of time going out with family but this time I’ll be on maternity leave so want to put something away so I’m not scrimping 😅

As PP, I save £100 a month, I'm only usually off for 3 weeks, but I still spend it all. I save separately for holiday clubs. Summer holidays are expensive.

I do the same as the poster above, save £100 a month as a TA. Only started last year in the Spring so I had about £500 saved for the last holidays. I was shocked at how quickly it disappeared but then, I suppose a pub lunch for 2 was coming in at around £40 plus petrol to go to places.
That's why I started this year's saving pot as soon as we went back in September!

I've never saved for it. I'm a teacher and my kids are teens now but when they were little we did lots of cheap or free activities with daily packed lunches, homemade coffee etc. So one day a week we'd do a national trust trail, another day a beach, maybe a library and crafting day, maybe a bike ride. The most expensive bit was fuel but I was saving money by not commuting for work so it didn't actually cost more. We probably did one paid for activitiy per week e.g cinema, attraction, bowling, climbing wall etc.

It actually gets harder as they get older because you can't just take them to the swings or the beach with a bucket and spade. They seem to want to be a lot more 'active' and I am a lot more exhausted....also I have decided I hate mountain biking!

Seems like £100 is the usual, I’ll make sure we put away £100 a month now until July. That should give us a tidy sum and also means she can go to a few holiday clubs with her friends as we’ve put money aside.

It varies for us and we just put aside whatever we can. Some years there's more in the pot than others but we just spend accordingly. I think it helps that we juggle work throughout the summer as that keeps the costs down! I do always take a week off unpaid though and I save for that separately throughout the year.

We have a 10 year old and a 3 year old, I just think it’s hard to do anything without spending about £50 with my 10 year old these days 🙄

Nothing here too (also a teacher so at home everyday in the holidays with my two kids). I’m always on the hunt for cheap/free days out which is quite easy to do as both under 6. We take picnics out a lot rather than buy food 😅

Overthebow · 19/03/2026 16:02

We don’t really save for it. We won’t be paying for school wraparound care over summer so that money gets used for holiday clubs instead, then the rest we just pay for as and when. We do save for our summer holiday though so that will take up a week of the holidays.
