Severe calf cramp! Who else has experienced this painful beast?

I was walking with DP on Sunday and I had the worst calf cramp in my 39 years, it was so bad, I jumped into the main road in shock and nearly got hit by a car. I went to the Drs who referred me to A&E as I couldn't even flex my foot. I can just about weight bare now. I was given codiene and Naproxen.

The weather is nice so I thought I would limp around the block but then had a panic attack as I was convinced I was getting it in my other leg.

I have been suffering from stress due to work and getting married in less than a month so I don't know if this is a factor and I have been gymming it most days and on Thursdays I gym and dance, maybe another factor?

Has anyone else had it this painful before?

I have gone down the Google route which is feeding my health anxiety and making me more stressed. My period was late this month and it's making me so tearful too!

I used to get it regularly due to periods, then it carried on when menopause hit.

In the legs and feet, and in the thighs. I'd literally scream and cry the place down!

''Doctors'' had no interest in helping me, and I was told it was ''all in my imagination''.Offered no advice or anything, just condescending and patronising remarks.

Another 3 nights in a row of excruciating pain, no sleep, crying, shaking, screaming. Various over-the-counter painkillers did absolutely nothing for me at all, nor did scoffing bananas.

Then a jar of Colmans mustard came up on Google, saying it's brilliant for cramps because of the turmeric.

Each time I got a cramp to the point I couldn't take the pain, I ate a 1/4 of a teaspoon of mustard, and it eased it off within just seconds!

I keep a jar of it and a small teaspoon on my bedside table and another in the fridge so it's always there when needed, and whenever possible, I squirt mustard on my meals at cafes/restaurants and mix it in with the food, even when I'm not cramping!

I get calf cramp a lot. I have muscular dystrophy and my calves are naturally tight but cramp is a whole other level. My only relief is my physio massaging it but that hurts too, I feel great afterwards though. Try a sports or muscular massage.

My GP also does acupuncture. He said to me to hold your upper lip , thumb inside, finger in the dip under your nose and squeeze hard. It works but no idea why!

I'm trying so many of the above, thank you so much.
I'm convinced stress isn't helping. I've had tingling in my face, twitchy muscles etc. I absolutely need to calm down!

I used to get them quite a lot. Hideously painful and the after pain could last several days. For me what worked best for immediately easing it was the foot flexing method, ie pull your foot up towards your shin with your hand, it makes the muscle relax.

I used to wake yelling in the night and my (now ex) H knew to grab my foot and push it up to my shin, and it always worked. It was one of the few things he was good for ! 😉

You went to A&E for cramp?

I was waiting for this one.
The GP urged me to go as the thought I had ruptured my Achilles as I couldn't move my foot what so ever or weight bare for over 24 hours.
I just did as I was advised.
