Easter in the UK - where are you going?

If you're going away for a few days at Easter, where are you going?

I'm desperate for a break after a full-on few months, and I'm looking for inspiration...

It'll be me, DH and two DDs 15 and almost14
End of March - weekend before Good Friday
Either 2 or 3 nights, maybe 4
Self catering - Airbnb or holiday cottage/flat/lodge, preferably but could be hotel
We're based in the middle of the UK and can travel almost anywhere. Cornwall is our usual go-to (St Ives, Mevagissey, Port Isaac, Polperro) or North Norfolk (Brancaster, Holt, Wells, Thornham, Burnham Market) - we absolutely love them but risk having overdone them, same with Cotswolds.
Last year, we went to Dartmouth, loved it, looking for similar feel
Budget - up to around £900
Ideally, near water
Ideally somewhere that has a mix of calm and quiet (preferably with views of fields, or water) but also with places for coffee, bites to eat, shops to look at, maybe galleries but not busy city centre.

Does anyone have any bright ideas or suggestions? Is there anywhere you've been you'd recommend, especially with teens in tow.

Pembrokeshire/Cardigan (or whatever they are called these days).

Lovely coast, some decent eating places, and plenty of accommodation to choose from.

Certainly on a par with Devon or North Norfolk and, IMO, beats Cornwall hands down.

We are off to East Wittering. We went last year and loved it. East Wittering has the cafes and restaurants. West Wittering has the most amazing beach. A 45 min walk or 5 min drive. But it gets crowded. Chichester fairly close for theatre and shopping.

This time last year, we went to East Devon. Lovely stay just along the estuary from Exmouth, helped by glorious weather.

Portsmouth - it has a beach, loads of interesting museums, spinnaker tower did amazing views and this Easter an artist is running a £100,000 free art treasure hunt. He’s called My Dog Sighs and he paints beautiful eyes with images reflected within the pupil and a brightly coloured character called Hug. There are 8,000 items being hidden including a £4,000 necklace designed in conjunction with a local jeweller. He did something similar a few years ago and it was brilliant fun. I’d recommend trying to find accommodation near the seafront - there are several hotels and lots of airbnbs

We’re going just south of the Lake District. Have family in that neck of the woods so going to do some walking and touristy stuff and also some family visits. Booked self catering dog friendly apartment. Really looking forward to it.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 17/03/2026 23:51

I’m going hiking in the Peak District with friends (no kids though)!

Steelworks · 17/03/2026 23:52

No where. Traffic is always awful over Easter. Worse than Christmas I think.

bellabelly · 17/03/2026 23:52

We're going to North Wales, can't wait!

CrispyK · 18/03/2026 00:00

We were going somewhere a 5 hour drive away but will probably just go somewhere a bit nearer to home now, in case of any issues obtaining fuel.

CrispyK · 18/03/2026 00:04

As you’re doing 2 or 3 nights it’s not worth going two far anyway.
would you consider getting the train somewhere?

AnotherNewNotebook · 18/03/2026 17:11

Thanks so much for the suggestions, and how have I never heard of the Witterings? This looks absolutely wonderful and lots of houses to let at that time. @sallydoodlecat would you recommend staying in East or West Wittering?

Thank you everyone for their suggestions - I’ll definitely look at Pembrokeshire. And yes, East Devon is a possibility too - I’ll take a look at the map. And always up for an adventure by train though with kids, and potentially the dogs too, suspect car will win out.

So sorry only just seen this and I’m probably too late. Definitely stay in East Wittering. Cafes and shops. Recommend Drifters and Drift-in cafe. And the Lamb pub. The main reason for West Wittering is the beach. But I’m there now and when the tide is out the beach at East Wittering is stunning. You can walk along it to get to West Wittering. Tomorrow we are driving to West Wittering to do the East Head walk. I think we are officially in west Wittering so they’re close by. And we can walk to the shops and cafes. There’s not loads here. Sleepy places. But the sunsets are sublime. It’s a peaceful break. Plus you have Chichester close by. And we went to Gunwharf Quays for some great shopping today.

Nowhere, it’s also my birthday at the weekend and I don’t want to spend it in an overpriced place full of screaming kids.
