Do you get itchy after a bath?

Had a long bath just now as I'm at home and fancied it, showered and washed thoroughly afterwards which usually prevents the itchiness, but I am going fucking mental now. Have had an antihistamine and moisturised. Trying to wrap up and keep warm and keep my hands busy - anyone found anything else that works for them?

Yes! Especially the soles of my feet. It's really unpleasant.

Yes I think it's to do with the capillaries dilating from the heat.

If i take Nifedepine for Raynauds it has the same effect.

Oh that's interesting, sometimes when I go out and it's really cold and then come into a warm place my earlobe gets a bit swollen and really itchy! 🤣

Oh, no, it's not that. It's been my whole life, and my mum and daughter get it too. For me I get the least effect if I shower and use soap and a flannel. My bath had nothing in it at all today. It's just the soaking.

I burn. Like literally go the colour of a tomato and my ears feel like they will combust!

We were in north America during the very cold weather last month and we went in a shop after walking for a while, all I could do was surf the wave of heat in my body!

Do you moisturise?

Do you moisturise?

Sorry, you said you do!
What are you using in your bath - is it drying?

KeeleyJ · 16/03/2026 14:26

Yes, especially if I use a Lush bath bomb. Doesn’t give me a rash, just itching that ends up with me clawing myself to bits.

Just water. Not that it makes any difference. It's not dry skin itchiness.
Although my mum, back in the 80s received that the only thing that didn't make her itchy after a bath was YSL Rive Gauche products 😁
Sometimes I think it might be hard water related as well.

It is miserable. I get it after every shower although not always straight away. I am planning on getting a water softener to see if that helps. I also struggle with bra fasteners, knicker elastic, and anything tight round my torso. I do get some relief from a homeopathic insect bite spray, just for a few hours.

Edit to add, seams in clothing too.

RoseField1 · 16/03/2026 14:41

Yes it's called aquatic pruritis and I've had it forever. Antihistamines do help a bit. To manage it I have baths rather than showers because change in temperature makes it worse, don't rub dry, moisturise with very good cream before my skin dries, air dry completely before putting clothes on my legs. It's miserable when it hits.

NedsAtomicWheelieBin · 16/03/2026 17:32

I get this! I had no idea it had a name, thanks @RoseField1

Snap! I've never met anyone else - it only the soles of my feet & palms of my hands that itch!
Seems to be product related because sometimes happens in the shower too, would love to know why it's just these areas, drives me nuts!
