Is he not feeling well today?

Barnestine · 16/03/2026 11:00

Would have to Google, but why are you doing obs on an 11 year old? Is he off school poorly?

youalright · 16/03/2026 11:01

Yes does he drink plenty of water. Being dehydrated can cause low bp

And are you using a paediatric cuff?

youalright · 16/03/2026 11:02

Also what are you actually testing on watches etc are not accurate. Are these regular reading or just odd random ones

Being dehydrated would raise heart rate as well as lowering BP.

Ffs, just take the kid to the doctor/a&e. Don’t muck around with cardiac things.

He doesn't need a&e for this

It depends how he is and why the readings were done.
No one with decent clinical knowledge will be able to answer your question based on the information provided.
Sorry

This. There is no point in checking a child's bp with an adult cuff.
Are you counting the pulse manually for a full minute and using an accurate timer?
Don't rely on a machine designed for adults.

I’m using an omron BP monitor with a children’s cuff.

I’ve been on hold with the Drs for 50 minutes.

He is off today unwell, feeling a little sick however had been complaining of chest pain at a sporting event on Friday and has been off since. Decided to check BP and I’m not happy with the result but it’s hard to get a clear picture of what’s within normal range for a child.

Family history of heart issues. NHS will test children approx 15, hence why I keep an eye on what’s normal for my children.

Does your gp not have the online gp thing

No, that was unfortunately removed after Covid.
They do however have an BP monitor that provides a print out, however until I have got through via the telephone and have “permission” to hand in the printout, it won’t be accepted. Same with unrine samples etc - it’s a total shambles of a practice.

Ah, I see. Very sensible then. Good luck with the Surgery.

MrsPerfect12 · 16/03/2026 16:03

I’ve got an appointment booked in with the Dr for a weeks time.

I will call 111 after hours for actual advise, I need to wait until after 6pm as they have referred me back to Dr who are at capacity for today.

The monitor now won’t give a reading from him but will pick up for my other children and myself okay.

Can’t you get a more urgent GP
appointment? I would say a child complaining of chest pain needs to be seen sooner.

The chest pains were Friday at the sporting event and not since. He only told me about that at bed time that evening.

Dr fully booked for today. I either call back at 8am or call 111 at 6pm. I am calling at 6pm.
