After a big change in circumstances were just starting to get on an even keel but after any tips to help.
I left my ft job due to stress 3 years ago. I started my own business & have been working part time in this since. Dh has subsided this for me as his ft wfh job pays well. Then he was made redundant suddenly. Anyway I've just got a ft job again in a different industry- slightly apprehensive! Dh still searching. But potentially it means were both going to be ft. We have 2 primary age (year 5 &6) kids.
Any tips, hints as my life changes massively and that if my whole family.

Do you have any family who can help with childcare?

QuirkyHorse · 15/03/2026 22:03

You'll be fine, you'll soon have a new routine.
Good luck in your new job.

I'm a single mum , i had to go FT too. I can manage. You need to be super organised, wake 6am, get all housework done sat mornings. There is no other adult. I do all shopping, cleaning, cooking, bins, admin, etc etc and drive 40 mins each way to manage a school department. Friday I'm exhausted am in bed by 9pm.
It's just a question of multitasking and getting little breaks of a hour or 2 to yourself on Sundays.

Thanks so much- I think I've just forgotten I can do it! My last profession nearly broke me and I'm scared I won't cope again this time....
No family near by. Whilst dh not working I feel we just have to swop routines- i do all school runs generally but won't be able to do any i don't think- we cook together but i generally do the shopping, walk the dog etc...

Could you do a lot of the meal prep at the weekend? So there is not so much pressure at meal time x

Are you able to WFH anytime during the week? That helps.

We have to organised up to the hilt. Alexa reminders ping every morning telling whoever is doing school run what random extra things need packing.

We batch cook to make the kids evening clubs easier to work around and menu plan other days.

Each child and club has different bags so whoever is there just grabs and runs.

@Playstoppaws no wfh unfortunately. Great ideas thank you. Yes we have swimming, cubs, scouts & football so good practical ideas.
@shellyleppard good idea.
