What's sort of things do you enjoy?

You can walk up the Beacon

There's Coldharbour Mill - check of it is open and active.

There's Fordmore Farm Shop and Steamers Coffee place. Killerton isn't far away.

If you go to Tiverton There's the Grand Western Canal, Knightshayes, Halberton Farm Shop.

Exeter is great, the RAMM, Quayside and Fore Street areas

The Exe Trail and villages are nice with good pubs at the Double Locks and Turf Locks. You can do a round Robin of the Estiary with trains and boats.

Stuart line do boat trips all over the area

I’m quite easy tbh although I like a boat trip. I will have 2 dc with me (10 & 11).

Thanks for your tips

Crealy Theme Park near Exeter
Donkey Sanctuary near Sidmouth (free entry, nice restaurant and gift shop)
I don’t think Exeter Museum is worth a trip unless you are in Exeter, it’s quite small.
Exmouth if fine weather, nice beach, small amusement arcade if you like that sort of thing, Ocean soft play and bowling, cafes and restaurants.

Who are you going with?

Diggerland is quite close, if you have children who are interested in that kind of thing.
There's an interesting antiques place at Hele, again not too far away.
Dunkeswell aerodrome isn't far away, but I imagine (I don't know) it would just be for watching the small planes and gliders... Unless you want to spend megabucks for a private flight or lesson? There are loads of gliders operating out of there.
Culmstock isn't too far from either Taunton or Exeter if you want to investigate what is on at either of those places.

Also, if you like to go to church at Easter and don't mind travelling a bit, Exeter Cathedral is a fabulous place to go. It has a great choir, so wonderful music, and it is a friendly and welcoming church despite its size. It is also beautiful.

Food at the Lost Kitchen in Tiverton, Culm Valley Inn or the Hartnoll Hotel and tea and cake at Bridwell. Walk by the river if the sun is out, there’s a lovely circular walk through a water meadow.

Wellington Monument is close by and worth a walk up for the view. Greendale and Darts farm both close and beaches at Exmouth (sand), Sidmouth and Budleigh (stone). Sidmouth is great for a mooch round some shops imo. Exmouth has a very long walk both on the beach, or path/cycle path if you have bikes/scooters. Be sure to pop into the RNLI shop for ice creams, half the price of anywhere else and supporting good cause!

Villanousvillans · 15/03/2026 09:04

Definitely the Donkey Sanctuary at Sidmouth. Free parking and entry, lovely cafe and gorgeous donkeys.

Don't bother with crealy thene park. Its absolutely rubbish. The rides are OK for young kids but any over 8 will find it quite boring.

Exeter is a fantastic city with lots of history to it and there are some great shops, museum, cathedral etc

It depends where they've been and what their experience is for theme parks really.

My nephews had never been to Crealy before (12 & 9) and LOVED it!

Otter Valley Ice Cream is nice too- good pizzas

Diggerland is amazing, I have been twice, once with a 9 year old and a 4 year old, then again with an 8 year old and an 11 year old. I would say 10 /11 is the perfect
age because they are tall enough to do everything, but young enough to still be excited about it. If they are the kind of kids who like driving stuff.

dastardlydani · 15/03/2026 12:47

I think my dc will love Diggerland!
