Mother’s Day Plans?

Just really odd to put the title box at the bottom!!
What’s everyone up to tomorrow? I know it can be very difficult for some folks. DD17 finds it tough as she’s adopted. Made a big effort as a kid but nothing for the last few years 😢I’m also sad this year as DM has dementia with Lewi bodies so a lot of the time, she’s not properly aware of what’s going on 💔I’ve bought her a card & am trying to find her favourite flowers (astromeria or at least I think that’s how you spell it!) DD & I might go to the donkey sanctuary, although it’s a fair drive & likely to be very crowded & very cold! I have unusual butchers pies for tea with hogs pudding & dauphinoise potatoes in - not sure DH will like them!

Both DMum (widowed) and MIL (divorced) are going to be with us for the day this year, so we’re going out for Sunday lunch because I didn’t feel like cooking.

Scorpion84 · 14/03/2026 16:59

Hoping I'll get a lie in and a croissant in bed

then I'll watch my son play football

ive invited my mom and sister round for afternoon tea . Found a really nice vintage stand on Vinted for a fiver . It's my sisters first Mother's Day as a single mom so I've got her a few bits

blankcanvas3 · 14/03/2026 17:00

DH will make me breakfast in bed with the assistance of DC, open presents and cards, then he goes out with them all until mid afternoon so I get time to myself. Then we’ll go over to my dad and stepmum’s house and have a roast dinner. Come home, little ones in bed and then have. a glass of wine whilst watching a film. We’ve done the same thing for seventeen years and I wouldn’t want it any different!

Not sure why mothers day should be tough for someone who is adopted does that say the adoption process is not completely worked through as yet? Surely being adopted os private information to your daughter only?

I am not adopted so have no idea, but I do see how it could bring lots of emotions to the fore. Maybe it stirs up feelings about her birth mother, or why she is not with her birth mother.

Booooooooom · 14/03/2026 17:10

My mum is dead.

My adult kids are cooking a roast chicken with all the trimmings. They took me out for brunch today. I’ll walk the dog and then relax for all of tomorrow. Very much looking forward to it.

EllaPaella · 14/03/2026 17:10

Unfortunately my Mum is 250 miles away and I had to work today so I haven’t been able to go and spend the weekend with her. I sent her some flowers and chocs and we’ll facetime.
I know my husband and boys have been planning some presents as I’m on strict instructions not to look in a particular cupboard 😁. We have football matches for two of our boys tomorrow so I won’t get much of a lie-in but DH had been to the butcher today and bought a beautiful rib of beef to cook tomorrow. We’ll share a nice bottle of wine and I’ll hopefully not do any housework!

SunshineAndSandalsMakeMeHappy · 14/03/2026 17:12

It’s the first year without any of the DC at home, they’re all at Uni but I’ve had a beautiful bouquet delivered today from DC1, a package delivered with instructions not to open until tomorrow from DC2 and DH is delivering DC3’s in the morning apparently. DH said the dogs have also arranged something so I’ve to be ready for 12.30 to go out. I lost my aunt who was like a mum to me late last year and it’s a strange feeling not to be spending the day with her tomorrow.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 14/03/2026 17:14

I’ll probably get a card from the DC (facilitated by DH as they’re 12, 5 and nearly 2). DD1 is at a friend’s for a sleepover so I’ll pick her up tomorrow morning and then take her to the cinema.

DH is taking the other two DC to see his family for his cousin’s 30th birthday. He’ll take MIL’s card and present with him.

I’ll pop by my parents’ house to give my mum a small plant as a stand in present until hers actually arrives. My sister and I will hopefully give that to her next week.

purpleme12 · 14/03/2026 17:16

Apparently my child is going to make me breakfast (scrambled egg and bacon I believe is the plan) and then a picnic dinner and then homemade pizza for tea! At least that's the plan she's told me!

Pancakeflipper · 14/03/2026 17:18

I like a quiet-ish day. My teens have informed me that Ill be walking the dog with them for company tomorrow morning - i love a walk and chat.

One teen says they'll go to the garden centre and get the big bags of compost for me.
One teen has requested we make lemon meringue pie together.
One teen will be desperate to get out in the afternoon to their hobby - I can see them itching to ask if its ok, so I've granted them their wish.

I would like a card with a lovely message. A hug and some of their precious time.

DP is travelling to see his mother for the day. I could join them. But I'd rather my MiL is spoilt by her boys and I get to spend the day with attention from my tribe.

Craftyrose · 14/03/2026 17:29

It's my daughter's birthday tomorrow. She was born on Mother's day 11 years ago so we have to share again this year! Apparently I am allowed to choose breakfast plans and she gets the rest of the day!

Unpaidviewer · 14/03/2026 17:34

I'm taking my toddler to the cinema for the first time. If he enjoys it then great. If not then we will leave early and go to a cafe. Then just a chilled day. Maybe a walk in the woods or to feed the ducks.

PloddingAlong21 · 14/03/2026 17:53

Husband will bring me a cuppa in bed (however he does this everyday) with some presses from son (younger). However…pretty sure he went to a local pottery place and he’s hand painted me a mug as I dropped the last one he made which I was super upset about as he painted it for me when he was tiny. As such that and some flowers is perfect.

We are then going for a large family lunch at a village pub for a roast. My parents, my in-laws and sister and her lot - everyone gets on well so it’s nice my son can play with his cousins in the pub garden as they have a fort etc whilst we have a catch-up.

Got my mum some flowers (which DH picked up for me when he got his mums today) and some Freddo Caramels (according to my son they’re now my mums favourite. She collects him from school during the week so he sees her a lot so wanted to pick her chocolates. I sense they’re more likely for him….)

Whatthefork1 · 14/03/2026 18:00

Both my children are still very young. I would never expect anything on the day directly from the children and when they get old. I take it as more of a day that my DH should celebrate me and the hard work I put into raising our family.

my mum lives 4 hours away so I won’t see her. DH mum is a nightmare, so he will feel obliged to do a visit, but I think it will be just him.

as long as I can have a bit of a lie in, I don’t care what else happens 😂😂 I haven’t slept through the night in nearly two years so I put sleep as a priority!

Lordofthewing · 14/03/2026 18:24

We will see MIL for breakfast and then go to my mum for lunch. Next year I think I will invite them both over together as the back and forth every year is a bit much and we can all just enjoy a nice meal without worrying about getting to different places.
i am looking forward to my 7 year old doing me a early “breakfast” when I get up, AKA whatever she can reach on the kitchen so this usually means some sort of fruit, yoghurt and a croissant or biscuit with a glass of squash. She really is a very thoughtful little girl and is always up for celebrating other people in any way she can.

My two are adopted and while they absolutely love me, it’s a reminder of loss for them too and of a mum who couldn’t care for them safely. They’re teenagers now and always make a fuss of me, which is lovely but they also spare a thought for their birth mum. I don’t think that takes anything away from me as their mum, if anything it’s reflective of the empathic, compassionate young people they’ve grown into.

I’ll be brought breakfast in bed and DH and DD are making a roast dinner. DS and I will do dessert and we’ll have a nice, slow day at home.

saminamama · 15/03/2026 01:02

pedicure booked by Dh, hoping to spend the day with my babies aside from this

mondaytosunday · 15/03/2026 02:00

Well I will be surprised if it’s anything other than a normal Sunday. My son lives 80 miles away and has mentioned it a couple times but only in a ‘are you seeing (sister) around Mother’s Day), which I’m not as she’s about 300 miles away at uni. She hasn’t mentioned it at all so assume it just hasn’t registered with her. In the past we’ve gone out for lunch but if they were at home they’d probably make a roast lunch. I don’t mind at all I’d rather they didn’t spend the money on a card or flowers etc

MummyInTheNecropolis · 15/03/2026 07:45

My DD is at her boyfriends for the weekend as usual so I won’t see her, and won’t get a card or anything. She never really bothers with Mother’s Day. She has her own issues to deal with (mental health, addiction) so I don’t expect much but I am a bit sad that I won’t see her and won’t even get a card. I’m sure there will be a performative social media post for me though 🙄. She has said she’ll take me out for dinner in 2 weeks when she’s been paid but based on past experience I doubt it’ll happen.

I will still have a nice day though, I’m going to see my own mum at my sisters house later, sister is doing a roast for us all and I will get to spend time with my lovely little niece and nephew. I’ll give my mum some flowers and chocolates which I know she’ll be delighted with.

DemonsandMosquitoes · 15/03/2026 07:58

My mum is dead. MIL in care and we saw her yesterday.
DS2 is away at uni. Will FaceTime later.
DS1 has done the cards and pressies thing for them both and is currently watching F1 with DH.
Nothing special planned. Off food shopping shortly.

KevinsSignatureShortdeads · 15/03/2026 08:04

Nothing too different to normal; I will take DD to her sports training while DH goes to see his mum with DS. I need to pop over to my own mum’s this afternoon (we used to be close, but she’s done some outrageously unforgivable things in the past few years, so our relationship is strained now).

Back home where I’ll make mine and DD’s lunches for the next couple of days and DH will make dinner. Then out with one of my best friends for a catch up this evening.

Happy Mother’s Day to you all.

AquaShark · 15/03/2026 11:07

We have invited dm and dmil over for afternoon tea style lunch which dh and ds (10yo) are making.
My dm has lived overseas for several years so this is lovely to have her here today.
When they all leave i get my pick of family board game, a glass of vino and family tea cooked by dh.

Ahh i love that your daughter does this for you. This was the first year my son made me breakfast in bed and we both had a pain au choc and a carton of cranberry juice.
He was very proud of himself.
The cat looked outraged that ds had stolen her spot in bed 🤣

WooWooWinnie · 15/03/2026 11:14

I’m working, which suits me fine as my daughter is with her other mum this year (recently divorced). She chose me a “best mum” hairband (she’s 3) and drew me a picture, which was perfect. My own mum is 300 miles away but I saw her last weekend she’s having a nice day with my sister. Was hoping to do a bit of gardening when I get home later but it’s raining so think I will be settling down infront on the tv. Worse ways to spend a Sunday afternoon.
