Are you bored tonight? Harry Potter questions

Not a quiz but a plea for help. DC and their group at school need to do a project in which they explain every Harry Potter by movement or dance.

We saw HP 1 about 5 years ago but have never watched any others or read any (shocking I know!)

Have you watched or seen any and could you list off the books and films and the theme for each one? And even better could you suggest movement or dance which could express each theme?

You have no idea how grateful we would be!

I’m sure google will help your child find a synopsis and themes.

Well, that was a jolly good start! Though I would prefer comments from people here if possible. More likely to be inspirational and full of humour.

Do you have any ideas about how any of the films could be expressed by movement or dance?

There's not really a 'theme' per book/film tbh. The plot could be summed up for each book/film, but not in a one-line way that could easily be interpreted into a movement or dance if you didn't know the story, I don't think. It sounds like you're imagining something like 'The 1st book is about dragons, so we can do movement based on dragons', but it's not really like that - there aren't different themes per book!

Thanks for this. I wonder what the teacher is thinking then, as it was their instruction. Unless dc has misunderstood it. They are very shy so the thought of doing movement or dance to express anything is terrifying.

This is a question you should ask ChatGPT

RamsayBoltonsConscience · 13/03/2026 18:54

The dementors are very floaty and menacing, I’m sure that could be portrayed. Book 3 Prisoner of Azkaban

I'd also be involving ChatGPT tbh. I have read all the books several times...but I wouldn't say each book has an individual theme?
I'm wondering a bit if your child has got the wrong end of the stick somewhere, as this seems like a rather "out there" piece of homework

When I went to Harry Potter studio they had dementors doing dancing - I’m sure some one would have put it on youtube.

Monsterslam · 13/03/2026 18:59

Book 2 - spiders and snake
Book 3 - werewolf and a crazy prisoner run about the school for a bit
Book 4 - swim a bit, fly after a dragon a bit, go in a maze, win a cup, cup turns out to be a bit shit.
Book 5 - mostly spent in a terraced house
Book 6 - was this the one they spent mostly in a tent and got arsey with eachother?
Book 7 - they collect some trinkets and people die.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 13/03/2026 19:00

Yeah op, theme or plot??

I would do plot if possible

Also, which book?

SchoolDilemma17 · 13/03/2026 19:00

Just ask chatgpt 🙄

No, what you’ve said for book 6 happened in book 7.

Book 6 was Harry getting told all the info and travelling round in memories with dumbledore

ETA - what a ridiculous piece of homework

Troubledwords · 13/03/2026 19:03

Snakes feature quite a bit in book 2, so maybe something snake like in movement.

As well as dementors in book 3 you have a werewolf, but I suppose that could be about reunion and knowing the past.

Book 4 is the start of the darker years, challenges, death, dragons, underwater.

Book 5, challenging authority, teamwork, making new friends.

Book 6, knowing the past, death of a leader, first love.

Book 7, sacrifice, friendship, facing fears.

Not easy to think of how to turn that into dance moves though.

RafaistheKingofClay · 13/03/2026 19:06

I’m not sure there is a distinct theme for each book.

There are some overarching ones e.g. love, good vs evil, actions and choices being important rather than ‘fate’

Ah yes I remember now.

I can't read them now as I hate harry so much. Why don't they all hate him? He's such a whiney shit. I'm definitely team malfoy!

I wouldn't like Harry

He reminds me of David Platt, just there being the main character all the bloody time 🙄🙄

'Oo look at me, my scar is tingling' 🙄😄

Cup turn out to be a bit shit is some epic understatement 😂

6 is the one where Harry and Dumbledore go round trying to kill horcruxes.
7 is the one where they are in a tent falling out all the time.

5 also has huge amounts of teen angst and mostly involved Harry getting very pissed off with everyone about everything.

Imagine sending your child to Hogwarts and just constantly hearing how much stuff he was doing against the rules and how much danger it put your child in and then turning up and being expected to treat him as a celeb and cheer him on.

The fact that Hermione and him end up running the ministry between them is also dodgy as hell. More corrupt than fudge no doubt.

RafaistheKingofClay · 13/03/2026 19:15

Poor Ron too. Eventually get made prefect after always being second fiddle to all his brothers and Harry is all ‘but why not me I’m the main character here’ and Ron has to keep pretending he hates being prefect.

Omg and Dont even get me started on Dumbledore - every year kids are bailing you out of trouble - terrible man

Dumbledore was a safeguarding nightmare.

I actually think filch is the only decent character.
