Inspired by another thread. Have any of you been on the receiving end of ‘helpful advice’ wrt child rearing - which was just bonkers ? I married into a south East Asian family who were never shy in proffering their wisdom. Interestingly, the most strident views always came from the childless relatives. I must of rolled my eyes so many times, I’m surprised they didn’t get stuck. Just a bit of fun. ..
Wind is a big problem for babies. Not just a biting easterly across the Cambridge fens - which is understandable, but ANY wind. This includes fans, light breezes , draughts, air conditioning etc even in 30+c… The ‘wind’ will enter the body and cause havoc with his/her soul. It’s especially adept at getting ‘in’ through the feet - so Chinese aunty was always slipping socks on them when my back was turned .
Never carry baby on your hip or he will walk with splayed legs.
Rain is VERY problematic. A single drop will mean your baby or toddler will be ‘tricky like a fish’ (I’ve not personally met many tricky fish so never sure about this one).
My own English mum was not any less crazy with her firm belief that tickling babies feet to make them suckle if they’ve fallen asleep on the boob - is very very bad and will mean they will definitely develop a stutter ..
