What to do in Leeds by myself on Saturday evening

Hi everyone.
I’ll be in Leeds from about 4pm onwards, staying in a city centre hotel on a Saturday night in a few weeks.
Ive looked, there’s nothing much on theatres and I think I’d feel odd going myself anyway.
I don’t often get to a city so I don’t want to sit alone in my room.
Any ideas?

Not sure what time the Art Gallery closes but it’s nice, then you could walk down via Victoria Quarter have a browse in the shops, if you fancy the cinema there’s one in Trinity and then what sort of food do you like?

Swim, spa, cinema, meal, comedy show, a drink, shopping.

What do you not get enough time for when you're at home?

RosesAndHellebores · 09/03/2026 18:38

Actually @Serenitespring if you
could drop into see MIL, make sure she's eaten and done the dishes and do a little food shop for her and give the bogs a clean, that would be great.

Seriously, have a look at the Play House and the Cinema, have an early morning walk around the armouries, the shops are pretty good and suss out where the Henry Moore stuff now is - it's worth a look. Catch the bus to Horsforth or Ilkley.

Thai restaurant Chaophraya! Was in there recently and there were several people dining alone.

Papyrophile · 09/03/2026 19:11

The Armouries museum is fantastic.

There’s nowhere to swim in the city centre though ( unless you can count small hotel pools) that you can just walk into

What sort of thing do you feel comfortable doing on your own? Personally I think theatre and cinema on your own is dead easy..you are sat in the dark and nobody is looking at you!

You are there a bit to late to take in the art gallery and museums I think ( unless you dont mind a quick whizz around).

I can recommend some nice restaurants if you tell us what you like to eat.

Definitely have a wander around the Corn exchange and all the shopping arcades ( Victoria, Trinity, Grand , Thorntons, Queens). Don’t bother with St John’s and Merrion Centre shops.

CheeseWisely · 09/03/2026 19:25

The Playhouse, The Grand, the City Varieties. Everyman in Trinity if there’s a film you want to see. Nothing wrong with going to a play or a film on your own, I occasionally go to London for work and always book myself a theatre ticket if I’m staying overnight.

You could do the Owl trail…download a map and wander around the city finding all the different Owls on buildings ( great way to see Leeds architecture)

FleaDog · 09/03/2026 19:28

Go to Fuji Hiro for awesome noodles or people watch in The Ivy.

Look at City Varieties, Arena, Playhouse, Grand Theatre or The Light for any shows or films on. Think there is a William Grimshaw exhibition on at one of the museums.

Get the train to York for the afternoon although there should ve plenty to do in Leeds.

Belgrave music hall has lovely loaded fries!

Umpteen coffee shops to chill out and people watch.

From there you could also go further afield, eg the Hepworth in Wakefield or over to Haworth and Brontë country. So many choices!

You wouldnt do that from 4pm on a Saturday though ?

Serenitespring · 09/03/2026 19:59

Thanks so much, I’ll have a look at the suggestions.
Will look at theatre / cinema maybe they’d be a good idea.
I can put a good face on but I’m not sure I’m brave enough to sit in an Ivy type restaurant in Leeds by myself on a Saturday night - as much as I’d like to!!
So a casual, market/fast food maybe.

Edited

You can swim at The Edge at the University or use the gym just pay as you go. There's a sauna and steam room and it's open til late in the eve.

Hyde Park Picture House is not far from the city centre and is a lovely old cinema that shows different things.

Lots of restaurants if you don't mind solo dining.

Trinity Shopping centre has an Everyman and is open until 8ish.

Sidebeforeself · 09/03/2026 20:09

Try Trinity Kitchen ( thats a food court in the Trinity shopping centre) but I prefer the Cloth Hall food court behind the Corn Exchange. Both are v casual.
