6 year old DD napping

I don’t think it’s a massive deal but my youngest DD has started napping again most weekends. She asks to go for a sleep usually early afternoon and will get in bed and fall asleep immediately. I’ve never left her to wake naturally I always wake her after 1.5 hours max but goodness knows how long she’d sleep for! She’s a good sleeper- 7:30-6/6:30 Monday to Friday and maybe 8:30-7 on a weekend. She doesn’t do loads of extracurricular and has a normal busy kids life (weekend parties, afterschool club, swimming lessons) but nothing mad that should make her exhausted.

Is this just normal? I only worry as it’s new after years of not napping!

Have you noticed any changes, e.g. drinking a lot of water? Is she eating as usual?

ChefsKisser · 08/03/2026 21:24

Eating normally, no lost weight or anything or any other signs of diabetes. She’s incredibly clumsy so she’s always got bruises but they all have a cause not random bruising!

I'd ask for a blood test to check iron etc. I cannot imagine my 6yo having a nap unless he was ill or hadn't slept at all in the night.

Are you sure she sleeps well at night? No apnea?

I think I'd be inclined to take her to the GP for a check over/possibly bloods!

Ok interesting I might make an appointment then. My other daughter was really poorly a year ago and the wait for ‘urgent’ paeds bloods was 3 months so I won’t hold my breath…
Shes fine when she’s awake I wondered whether school was just getting to her but seeing those replies maybe I need to take a bit more seriously thank you.
