Staying in Liverpool city centre

Is it best not to take the car?

Most accomodation doesn't seem to have parking. The train to get there is a fairly straightforward journey for us, but we're travelling onwards afterwards, and it probably would be better to have the car for that part of the trip, although it could be managed without.

How much of a pain will having a car be in Liverpool?

There is a cheap car park off Bold St that I use, it’s called ParkBee. Where are you going afterwards?

When I’ve been there I’ve not bothered with a car.

Are you going through for the Liverpool half marathon? My son is going for that. He's going on the train and then staying for a few days to see the city. It's supposedly got a good and affordable public transport system so do you really need to take your car?
Edited to say sorry just seen your update so my post isn't really relevant.

Not the HM no.

If I was only going to Liverpool I wouldn't take the car, but we're having a week in the Lakes afterwards. The buses there are pretty good, for a rural area, but it would be easier to have the car.

I'm wondering how much trouble taking the car into Liverpool would be. Whether having a car in Liverpool City Centre would be worse than not having one in the Lakes.

I would take the car. There is plenty of reasonably priced parking so I would find somewhere to leave it for your stay in town. You probably won’t need it whilst you’re there but it will make the rest of your trip much easier.

There’s loads of city centre parking. There’s two Q-Parks one right next to John Lewis and Paradise St bus station. There’s a car park on Duke Street, a multi-storey on Gradwell Street, another car park on Park Lane, a multi-storey at St John’s and the multi-storey on Mount Pleasant. Plus loads more that I can’t think of off the top of my head.

We stayed at Novotel Paddington village and left the car in the multi storey next to it. You don't need a car in the centre (unless you have mobility issues), there's lots of public transport options, but we mostly walked everywhere.
I love Liverpool, it's a great place for a city break.

You could take the car but leave it outside the city centre and get the train in. I’m from Liverpool but if I’m going away by train I’ll drive to South Parkway station and leave the car on Long Lane for a few days and it’s always been fine.

If you don’t feel comfortable leaving it on the street, you can park for free at Hooton and get the train into town from there (Wirral line). Hooton is one of the few Merseyrail stations that allow you to leave your car overnight.

If you’re happy to pay city centre parking charges there’s no problem driving in the city centre, but it can be very pricey if you’re there for a few days. ETA 2 days in the Q-Park would be £100+

Paradise cove apartments have parking and right in the city centre, would highly recommend

The multi storey car park at St John's is the cheapest for a weekend if you book in advance. I live in liverpool but have left the car there for the weekend when getting the train to London rather than pay for taxis from my house.
