I currently support an orphan in Pakistan a 16 year old girl with human appeal and with Barnabas aid, I sponsor a Pakistani Christian child who lives in poverty and faces persecution to go to a Christian school.

Are there any other reputable charities you have sponsored children or women through?

I certainly wouldn't call Barnabas Aid reputable what with all the issues with the founder.

I support The Sepsis Trust. I knew very little of Sepsis in general until my dad contracted it in hospital and subsequently died because of it.

Whilst I have also lost family to cancer & dementia, Sepsis, for me, is an area that needs far more attention (and training/hospital protocols etc.) as it is very treatable yet the numbers of people contracting it are forever growing.

None. It begins at home.

Local Hospice Charity and Local River Trust.
I will not support a charity that pays large sums to it's CEO. It's my money and time I'm donating and I will not give money when only a fraction will be going towards it's charitable aims. My money, my choice.

I worked for charities for over 20 years and unfortunately it has put me off donating.

I only support local animal shelters and the RNLI (I live in a seaside town) because I can actually see the impact of their work.

In my career I have come across too many charities having dodgy fundraising practices, bullying staff and volunteers and seen money wasted on vanity projects and CEO/directors pay while front line staff who do the actual work are paid and treated badly.

I am not saying that people should not support charities, just that it is best to do research first, check the charity's annual accounts and only give to them if they make a real impact on their beneficiaries.

I work for one, and also donate monthly to MAP.

Monolithique · 07/03/2026 13:15

Donations of money:
St Martins in the Field homeless campaign and
Great Ormond Street Hospital
Other more local charities

Also support charity shops Ryder and Debra in giving donations for them to sell.

Headlines.

JustGiveMeReason · 07/03/2026 13:21

Several.
the ones that meet your criteria in your op are probably Water Aid and Toilet Twinning

Londonmummy66 · 07/03/2026 13:22

Money - our local Trussell Trust foodbank, St Mungos homeless charity, Association for Post Natal Illness, MIND, Stroke Association
Time - local girls only activity centre, foodbank

We also belong to a couple of livery companies and donate to their charitable trusts that support a range of charities associated with the livery skills.

My last comment is only applicable to those who are sponsoring orphans or children in poverty or girls at risk.

In which case I probably don’t fulfil your criteria, but I support local charities and some national ones and in the last year have donated to about 15 different causes.
