Teeth implants

Starting this thread as I'd contributed to a previous thread about tooth extraction and said I'd update with my implant experience post-extraction. The previous thread was a 30 day only one, hence this new thread.
I had two teeth out 5 weeks ago (upper premolars).
Last week I had a CT scan which is necessary to check where my sinuses are and how thick the bone is around the socket of each tooth.
It was much less of a performance than hospital scans I've had. I just had to stand, biting on a piece of plastic, while the machine moved round my head for a couple of minutes. It wasn't enclosed and not at all claustrophobic.
Based on that, I'm going to need a bone graft in one socket. This involves opening the socket and packing it with cow bone. It'll take 3-6 months to heal, then the implant proceeded can begin.
In the meantime, I've got some other dental work to be done: repair of a cracked tooth, replacement of some frontal fillings and repairs and also tooth whitening.
All told, the cost is going to be £6,000 which is, obviously, a lot but worth it to me as I've always hated my teeth.

This is particularly for @LesLavandes and @TwinkleTwinkleX

Good luck! Hope it goes very well for you

Thank you for posting this. I've got the opportunity to have an implant done, but I suspect I too would need a bone graft and I don't think I can face all the hassle involved. I'd be interested in you posting again when it's all over and done with.

My friend had a bovine graft and an implant about 2 years ago and it was 5k, looks great and she is very pleased with it.

I was about to start the process for having implants when I mentioned something relating to my autoimmune disease. My dentist told me he couldn't continue if I had an autoimmune disease as the implants are often rejected.
I've since spoken to a woman that this happened to.

It wasn't something I'd heard about before. Thought I'd mention it incase this is relevant to anyone on the thread.

Same. And my jaw bones are too shallow without bone grafts. Seemed like a l but too much hassle, risk and cost. I pick up my denture next week - comes in at under £500.

I'm sorry to hear that but it does make sense, I suppose.
The thing my dentist was emphatic about was smoking. He said he preferred people to be non-smokers or, at least, to give up before treatment started.
I've never smoked so that was good news.

Oh thank you for this. I have chronic fatigue syndrome, which whilst not specifically classified solely as an autoimmune disease, is considered a complex, multi-system disease with a significant autoimmune component to it. That's definitely made me think I won't go down the implant route.

To update:
I had the bone graft done on Wednesday. It took about 45 minutes and wasn't too uncomfortable. I was just aware of a lot of vigorous pushing.
I've got 3 or 4 stitches holding the powdered cow bone in and I go back in 2 weeks to have those removed (some may have dissolved already) and the wound checked.
The soreness afterwards hasn't been as much as after the extractions, but my face is really quite swollen and that, if anything, has increased up to today. The redness has gone though.
Doing some shopping today (getting in some more potatoes to mash, stuff for soup etc) and am prepared for some odd looks. If I didn't wear glasses, I'd be tempted to put an old Covid mask on but I hate my specs fogging up!

Eta Dentist is talking about 6 months before the next implant step now. Presumably being cautious while he waits to see how it heals.
