Iranian female footballers refuse to sing the national anthem. That is so brave of them bearing in mind what might happen on their return to Iran, or to their families! https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2026/03/03/watch-iran-women-refuse-to-sing-national-anthem-amid-middle/

Iran’s women footballers refused to sing their country’s national anthem before their Asia Cup match against South Korea on Monday night.
Iran’s anthem Mehr-e Khavaran was played ahead of kick-off at the Cbus Super Stadium in Gold Coast, Australia, but footage showed players standing in line and staying silent. Iran head coach Marziyeh Jafari was pictured on the sidelines smiling as the anthem was played.
Jafari declined to comment on the military strikes against Iran or the death of her country’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, ahead of the 3-0 defeat, saying the squad needed to focus on the tournament.

Incredibly brave thank you op

I have mixed feelings - they are brave not to sing, but several of the players are men taking tg places of female athletes.

Iran, trans capital of Asia, where gay men have to claim to be women to avoid prison. The ultimate in "transing the gay away."

Not the place or time.

Who are the men taking the place of women in the Iranian team?

Three of the Iranian players on the women's team are male.

Because in their deranged theocracy you can be a male 'woman' more than you can be a homosexual man.

@Igotjelly I can hold more than one thought in my head at the same time. I can support the people of Iran against their vicious and oppressive theocracy. I can also object to one of the few professional women's sports in the middle east giving places to men rather than women as well.
