Constant smell of mild disel fumes

I've noticed over the past month or so I haven't been able to escape the smell of mild disel fumes. There is no obvious reason for this I have no exposure to this.
Has anyone else experienced this or know why this may be?

I get this too - sometimes a diesel fumes type of smell, sometimes more like burning plastic.

It seems to be quite common (I know I've responded to at least 2 previous threads about this) and - for me at least - it seems to be stress related.

Mine can go on for weeks at a time and then it'll just disappear. One of my dogs is quite ill at the moment and we're getting tests done at the vet, so I wasn't surprised when I started getting this smell again!

I do not want to worry you but it might be worth getting checked out if you have other symptoms such as a blurred vision, headaches etc. A couple I know daughter started complaining of smells (admittedly not diesel fumes) and it was a mass on her brain, thankfully caught early. I don't know the couple well so I am not sure what other symptoms she was complaining of.

I have had this for a couple of years now. I didn't realise it could be a sign of something sinister - I've had a severe increase in headaches and migraines since then as well. I'd better let my doc know.

It's called phantosmia and the smell of burning/fumes is a common phantom smell. It's almost certainly nothing serious if you don't have any other symptoms but as PP said it could be a symptom of something else.
How is your sense of smell generally? I get this when I lose my sense of smell after a cold.

Thank you everyone- normally sense of smell is good but I am quite stressed with work and husbands health at the moment. Thankfully no headaches though.

I had this and was caused by my old next door neighbour, he was going senile and stock piling petrol and diesel in his basement. There were over 20 barrells come the end and I was bloody glad when they put him away, Street could have went up in flames
