Advice on skincare regime for beginners?

it would be great to get some advice on where to start with a skincare regime. I wear makeup (concealer, foundation and powder) most days but have been very lazy with any kind of skin care routine since having kids! I’m returning to work soon and trying to get my life sorted a bit more!

I’m mid 30s, Indian, hereditary dark under eye circles, developing lines around my mouth and eyebrows. My skin is not really very oily or dry (unless there is a strong change in weather), but my skin just looks a bit flat. I’m also beginning to develop open pores.

can anyone give me a routine for what type of creams etc would be good to do every morning and evening?

I have a rare day off from the kids so planning to go to town today and see what I can find. I don’t think I can afford the high end brands, but maybe Boots Ordinary range

Look at Boots range, Sainsbury’s own and brands like Nivea and L’Oreal.

All I do is face wash morning then moisturiser and spf.

evening is take off makeup tone if need be moisturise and retinol a few times a week.

I use face masks and exfoliations too.

Beauty pie and the ordinary have good products.

I love Korean skin care, it’s been a game changer but I’ve had to work out what suits me and what products don’t. I also love the La Soie range that Aldi sell which is a dupe for La Mer. But they don’t stock it all the time.

Korean skin care looks great! I’ve just been looking at beauty of Joseon and their recommended skin care routine and products but it’s coming up to about £100 so I’ll pop in to boots and see how the prices compare for the ordinary range

I've started using Face Theory after it was recommended on here. If you go on to their website it tells you what you should be doing in order of 1,2,3. Lots of websites do this now.

I've been using it for about 6 months and I'm liking it a lot. Good ingredients, produced in the UK. Perfumed and non perfumed options.

They have a 30% off offer at the moment which makes it extremely good value.

For your specific concerns, dark circles, developing lines, open pores, and that flat dull look, the two ingredients worth building your routine around are niacinamide which tackles all four of those concerns at once by improving skin tone, tightening pore appearance, and boosting radiance, and a retinol used a few nights a week at night for the lines and overall skin renewal, and the good news is both of these are widely available at accessible price points so you don't need to spend a lot to get genuinely effective ingredients.
