Would you take a four month old to Bali?

Interested in opinions on this because I can’t figure out if I’m being unnecessarily cautious.

We haven’t been on holiday in forever and due to work can’t do long haul. For various reasons we can do long haul this year but would like to go before weaning the baby, so this is for all intents and purposes the “holiday of a lifetime”, well, for the next 8-10 years. We would fly Business and I’m not worried about the flight and the baby.

We are thinking about Bali with a stopover in Singapore. The vaccination schedule for babies is the same in SG as it is here and, as far as I can tell, Indonesia too. Baby has had the BCG.

We would stay right on the beach in a uber premium 5 star resort (and frankly not leave the hotel), so I’m not worried about the water or rabies or anything like that… just the mosquitos. Even if the baby didn’t contract dengue or something horrific, do babies scream their heads off over the itching over a bite?!

Part of me thinks: if all the other babies in SE Asia are born, how risky can a UK baby there be? Also, I’m no longer breastfeeding so no antibodies from me.

Would you take your 4 month old?

@MauriceTheMussel

Another idea may be to take a ferry from Singapore and stay at a luxury hotel in Bintan, Indonesia, even just for a night or two to get a break from visiting your family). (I used to live in Singapore so know how convenient it is to travel around the region)

Check out the fabulous “The Sanchaya” hotel in Bintan - you even get a dedicated ‘meet and greet’ check in at the ferry terminal.

I’ve been to Vali a few times but it’s a bit like “Brits Abroad” but substitute young Australians for British tourists… actually Thai beaches are nicer, perhaps check out Krabi or northern Phuket for luxury accommodation.

AL isn’t the reason, NY/European stock exchanges and trading hours are! Theoretically we could go to extremer timezones, but it would mean DH is working through the night on local time. Annual leave is never truly annual leave as he still has to monitor things, be on calls etc.

Of the 5 times in 10 years we’ve been outside of Europe, twice was when he was on gardening leave, the other 3 were: South Africa (so no time difference) and the Caribbean (so he could at least have an advantage when it came to NY, and a tolerable 5 hour difference to London)

Edited

He doesn’t have to be monitoring things, be on calls when on AL. That would be his choice, as in the UK he is legally allowed at least 20 days (this can vary slightly due to shift lengths etc) of AL where he can’t be forced to work. If his company is forcing him to, that is illegal.

@Roaminginthegloaming - that’s not a bad shout at all. All my mind was connecting previously was Sentosa (and views of the shipping lanes…), but the larger boats that go to Bintan are still a heck of a lot safer than the speedboats to other islands.

@DurinsBane - it’s just simply they don’t get paid what they get paid in that industry to simply not work whilst on holiday. It’s similar to having your own company - down tools at your own risk.
