Honda Civic - anyone had problema with premacture cambelt failing?

Always gone to the same Honda dealership.

3 years ago my Honda Civic cambelt went. The car was 4 years old and under the expected mileage. Aa a gesture of good will they put in a new engine! We had to pay some labour costs and hire from them so roughly £600 plus £10 a day for the hire car...wanted to charge me £20 a day but got them to £10.

Part exchanged car 2 years ago and purchased another used car from same Honda dealership. And guess what cambelts gone on this...4 years old only 42,000 on clock. They have put it through on the warranty...new engine required.

Ive have point blank refused to pay a single penny but they've told me have to pay 'diagnostic charges' of £159 +vat and hire car at £20 a day.

Im fuming...again being left without transport because of a part failure that shouldnt have happened. They've said £15 a day for car hire which I dont have any choice over as need transport.

Ive bought 4 cars over the years with them, use them for servicing etc. No way am I having another Honda...left such a bad taste in my mouth.

So my question, has any Honda Owner experienced this?

Help with compiling a letter of complaint to Honda HQ....2 cars now...left me with lack of confidence in the vehicle.

Im so angry ... need to perhaps sleep on it for a few days.

But I dont see why I should be paying for the dyagnostics!!!!!

Would trading standards or citizens advice be able to help or offer advice on my rights?

This must be the 1.0 engine.

First question is why did you buy a second Civic with the same engine?

Apart from this model, many modern Honda's are all chain driven.

The 1.5T is chain driven, you should have bought that.

Yep 1.0L turbo. First time they told me just a bit of a freak thing I had no idea about this. Main dealer, never said a word. Used them for over 10 years.
This time round Ive read up and seen all the recalls and info about 1.0Ls.

Today...Can you believe the sales manager at the dealership ranng me...asking if Im interested in buying another car soon, seen mine at the dealership loves it can see it's well looked after and know Ive had it 2 years do I fancy a change!!!! He didnt even know its in for a full new engine!

Well, he's a salesman, so selling is his job.

Might be worth asking for a trade?

All new Honda's are chain driven so you'd be a lot better off.
