Thames Water - who is responsible for restoring garden after repair?

Hi, I have a leak and Thames Water are coming out to repair. The leak has been confirmed as somewhere between the pavement and my front door.

Thames Water have said they may need to dig up my (very small London mid terraced) garden but they don't repair to the same standard as it currently is.

I have seen conflicting advice online that says legally they are responsible but tell people they aren't because they don't want to repair.

I have a mock Victorian tiled path which cost several £k. Is this Thames Water responsibility to restore or an insurance job?

I was always told that anything within your boundary is your responsibility, and any repairs done at your (your insurance) cost. Have they confirmed they won't be charging to locate and repair the leak?

Who is paying to fix the leak. I can't see that they will be responsible for restoring the path. And will it be dug up carefully without damage to the tiles.

Well you could get a quote or two from local landscapers/ builders then you have a figure to go on for Thames and insurance. Prob worth phoning insurance

Claim on your insurance that’s what it’s for

Thames Water have confirmed they are responsible for repairing the leak up to my front door and confirmed they provide a basic repair of the garden. When the Thames Water guy came last week to detect the leak, he gave me a letter, said they restore the garden path but don't expect the same standard and the photos in the letter showed lots of concrete poured over as patchwork for where they dug up.

Either way, I'd taken photos before, during and after. Insurance are likely to want these.

Thank you!!! And I have legal cover with my home insurance so they will know for sure if Thames Water are supposed to pay for restoration or not.

I would say you will need to claim on your insurance if more work needs done after they fix it.

Don’t forget to make a claim for a leak allowance after they have fixed the leak op, which they can deduct from your water bill.
