Reusable facial cleansing pads

Does anyone use them and what do you do with them after use? What is the best way to mange them so they don't get mouldy?

Do you hang them to dry and wash them at some stage.

Or do you fling them into a laundry basket waiting for the next wash?

Or should you put them aside for a laundry wash?

Should you use something called a wet bag that's used for reusable nappies to store them in until wash day?

What's the best way to manage them?

I use the reusable wipes I bought when the children were in nappies. Ones that are properly wet get put on the bathroom radiator to dry off before going in the wash basket. Ones that just have a bit of cleanser etc go straight in the wash basket.

There’s usually a load suitable for them every few days, so they’re never hanging about long. They’ve never gone mouldy.

I have a load of them so I use them and then chuck them in with the next wash.

I use one of those fluffy cleansing cloths every day, morning and night, then I hang over the tap to dry and throw in the wash basket in the morning.

I chuck them in the wash. Lots are a bit stained now but hey, they’re clean and they’re hardly on display.

Happytaytos · 25/02/2026 18:06

Chuck in the machine, it's on every couple of days so not long enough to go mouldy.

Same here, I have lots of the reuseable pads. Just put them in the wash basket and then in with whatever load I'm doing. I do put them in one of the mesh laundry bags as I find they have got caught up in my washing machine filters before as small enough to be flushed out with the waste water. Mine are quite stained too but clean so not bothered about that.

I use Erase Your Face cloths. And just chuck them in the washing machine along with my clothes

HollywentLightly · 25/02/2026 18:20

Dd and I use them and cotton face cloths. They go in a mesh laundry bag until it's ready to go in the wash, then just zip the bag and bung it in. Never had an issue with them getting smelly/mouldy before a wash and being in the bag I'm not worried about the thinner pads finding their way to the machine's filter.

i made my own - when used i put them in a little drawstring bag, and then when i've used them all, i tie the bag and chuck them in with the next lot of towels. When it comes out, i dry them (and give them a quick blast of steam with the iron to add a layer of sterility)

DD bought me a set for Christmas, two large and two small sponges. I’ve rinsed them out with hot water and a bit of face wash after taking makeup off & hung them on a hook from the over-sink shelves to dry then put them into a washbag with the normal washing at the end of the week, they seem to be coming up nice from that.

UpAndDownAllTheTime · 25/02/2026 18:24

Be aware, they can block your washing machine filter thing. Ask me how I know this 😊

So, like a PP, I put them in a mesh washing bag. I use them a coupel of times, rinsing under the tap then popping them on the radiator, then they go in the washing bag. I use bamboo ones.

Moveoverdarlin · 25/02/2026 18:26

I stopped using them. They get caught in the washing machine filter all the time.

goz · 25/02/2026 18:27

I don’t use the pads but use the microfibre face clothes. I start one in the morning, use the same one to wash my face that evening and then put it in the wash. I do a wash every other day minimum so they’re not in the basket for long. Never had an issue with them going mouldy.
