Kidney stones?

I have (I think) kidney stones, there’s been a lot of back and forth with doctors.

last month, presented with UTI symptoms. Went to the pharmacy, they gave me AB but didn’t even check my urine. Went to a doctor the next day. Wasn’t a UTI, stopped AB.

got referred for an ultrasound, that was Monday 16th Feb (last week). Got the results this Monday, I have calcium deposits in both kidneys. The doctor wanted to see me straight away when I told I yet again was having these uti symptoms, this was yesterday. Urine came back negative with a trace of blood. Sent me to be seen my surgical unit at my local hospital this morning, went there and my urine sample was +++ for every. Single. Thing. That could possibly be wrong. Literally everything. My bloods were normal except a slightly higher white blood count (literally 1 over the threshold).

forward to now, I’ve started antibiotics this morning. As the day progresses it’s getting harder and harder to wee, blood in my wee, urgency to go every 20 minutes and just not feeling great in my kidney area. I’ve been put on a virtual ward to wait for a CT scan and for my blood calcium levels to come back.

everything’s in motion to find out but I have a strong feeling it’s probably kidney stones that are stuck in my bladder maybe? I’m in a lot of pain, nothings really helping. Didn’t even get sent home with painkillers or anything.

has anyone experienced anything like this?

The antibiotics will not make a noticeable difference for two or three days. You need to be drinking at least 3 litres of clear fluids (water is best) every day from now on (always). Not sure if you are an inpatient or outpatient but if you cannot pass urine, you must tell them so they can catheterise you (if out pt with retention of urine, go to A &E if you cannot wee as delay may damage your kidneys). Also, they should be able to give you something for the pain. After this is sorted out, you need to watch your diet to avoid future stones (if you pass any or they remove any, get them to analyse the compositiin so you can find out what foodstuffs to avoid/limit. I have been through all this and now I am on appropriate foods and limiting the "bad" ones, plus the 3 litres of clear fluids daily, I have had no more stones for more than 10 years so far.

As the day has gone on I’ve found myself weeing less and less, I’ve drank maybe 600ml in the last couple hours and I’m literally hardly weeing any droplets every 30ish minutes. I’ve literally just got home maybe an hour ago and I feel like I don’t want to burden them already

i can go straight back to the ward if I need to as I’m a virtual patient on the ward, they felt I was well enough to come home but not well enough to be a full outpatient.

Sounds painful, I’ve had kidney stones a few times. Buscopan is good for discomfort and can help with the passing of small stones. Keep drinking but if you’re really uncomfortable and you cannot pee despite needing - which is an awful feeling go back. Hope you’re on the mend soon op

As pp above, if you cannot pass urine despite drinking a lot of water, do not hesitate to go to A&E and tell them. They should take that seriously, as you have suspected stones and a uti. Do not delay, as your kidneys might be permanently damaged if you ate retaining infected urine (I speak from personal experience).
