Candlelight Concerts - can we dance?

I’d really like to go to a candlelight concert - it’s a rocky one.
If you have been to one of these - are you allowed to dance? Did you?
I love to dance from beginning to end but obviously only if I’m not going to spoil someone else’s experience.

Yes as long as you go and do it in a quiet corner at the back so you aren't in anyones way

Florence4170 · 25/02/2026 14:05

Ah that’s good to know, thank you!

Not the ones I've been to. And if someone were dancing so I couldn't see the musicians, I'd be very annoyed, and ask the staff to get them to stop, or move right to the side/back.

The ones I've been to have been in a church, and are concerts, not gigs or raves.

Same experience here.

The ones I've been to you couldn't dance, there wouldn't have been anywhere.

I went to an 80’s one in a church a couple of months ago. Lots of people danced and the band were encouraging it

Acommonreader · 25/02/2026 14:41

I’ve been looking at going to one of these. I had not considered that people might dance! I thought it was a seated concert in a lovely hall or church. Do people really dance at these events?

Took my husband to one for his birthday. Was a wonderful show with dressing up and dancing but we couldn't dance had to stay seated

No.

Shinyhappyapple · 25/02/2026 16:47

Can I ask if some of them are with a tribute band and singer? As the ones I’ve seen look as though they are orchestral.

MotherofPufflings · 25/02/2026 16:53

No dancing in this one, but lots of tuneless singing along https://share.google/kIxoC7kuafQd91h6v

Might give them a miss 🙉

Shittyyear2025 · 25/02/2026 16:56

Absolutely not. It's a concert not a singalong dance event!

havingoneofthosedays · 25/02/2026 17:02

I was at a country one and we were encouraged to dance!!

KitsyWitsy · 25/02/2026 17:09

lol no. I have never seen anyone dance at these things. The ones I have been in have been at Minsters etc.. Where would you dance? Down the aisle??

FluffyPinkFlamingo · 25/02/2026 17:17

Went to an ABBA one in a cathedral and people were dancing all night.

Some people on this post sound like right fun sponges . No wonder people avoid socialising and everythings shutting due to lack of trade coz everyone judges others too easily now and people seem so uptight …

A fun-sponge for pointing out that the usual etiquette at concerts is you sit down and enjoy listening to the music Hmm You can’t dance to hymns sung in a church wedding either - presume everyone that realises that is also a fun-sponge?

I think it depends if it’s instrumental only and seated then no in my experience. It was a small area and lots of candles no room for dancing. If it was a band/singer I think it would be different.
