I'm so stressed out I haven't been able to eat properly for over a week

And it's making things worse and I can't seem to eat more. I'm trying to force myself to eat small nutritious things but they just turn to dust in my mouth and lumps in my throat.

There is nothing I can do about the situation causing this level of stress and no foreseeable end to it. I have to find a.way to cope.

I'm so hungry I feel weak and shaky all the time which I know is making it harder to handle the stress. I have kids I need to cook for and feed and feel barely able to stand in front of the cooker. Driving feels difficult too as I'm so jittery.

Try complan, mixed with milk it can help you get the nutrients you need.

I hope things get better soon 💐

Would it be possible to think of a plan B? Are you claiming the appropriate benefits for your child? If so, would you be eligible for a discretionary housing payment to help you pay private rent and allow you to move? I think I would feel better if I had a plan. I hope you have access to the appropriate support so you know what options are available to you. Unsure of your situation but there may be a charity applicable that could signpost you to resources. I’ve been where you’ve been regarding being unable to eat due to stress, only for 48 hours though. It’s a horrible feeling so I can’t imagine how you’re feeling week on.

Greek yoghurt with honey/maple syrup? It's my go to when I just don't know what I want, or I've let myself get too hungry.

I started SSRIs due to an external factor. It’s to manage the symptoms not the source of the issue, they helped me cope.

When I was in a similar situation I survived on protein shakes and digestive biscuits.

Hope things improve for you soon Flowers

Poor thing. It’s awful. When I was really stressed, I forced myself to do some exercise (something that really gets a sweat on) and would gobble down as much food as I could afterwards. I think my body working to recover from the exercise made it forget temporarily how stressed I was.

I get like this and have been going through a stressful family situation I can’t change so I sympathise. I find smoothies and picking at things like pineapple chunks grapes cheese chunks nuts help. I don’t like milk except a bit in coffee so struggle with meal replacement shakes. I also take multivitamins
I hope things improve for you soon op

I always lose my appetite when stressed and have been where you are. I was even given an antidepressant renowned for increasing appetite with no effect. At this point don't worry about 'healthy' just eat what you can stomach even if it is chocolate and ice-cream. If you can hide a multivitamin in it then do. This too will pass and then you can think about a return to a healthy diet.

CBD drinks are quite relaxing and might take the edge off temporarily. The best ones are Little Rick which are available online.

I had this once and just resigned myself to eating white bread and butter, washed down with milk. Just bites throughout the day. And a good multivitamin. It passed.

Thanks everyone.

Unfortunately I've never been able to stomach milk or milky drinks! But I'm making smoothies with the creamiest oat milk plus nut butter and frozen fruit which I'm forcing down. Using a straw helps.

Hello OP. I’m sorry you are stuck in this situation.

If the stress is constantly so high you must feel dreadful. Avoid caffeine, avoid alcohol. I used to hate sweet food when I felt stress like this, so not just appetite loss but a complete change in what I could stomach.

I went with the brat diet - banana, rice, apple , toast. Really nice sourdough toast with slices of banana or apple is easy to eat.

cambiodenombre123 · 31/03/2026 10:05

Ah OP, I've been there and it is awful. I survived on hot sweet coffee and the occasional bit of marmite on toast. Couldn't stomach anything else.

I took the herbal supplement rhodiola for a short time to get me through that phase. Just from Boots, it really helped.

Know this, things are going to be tough but this phase is temporary and WILL pass. You are enough, in fact, you're amazing x
