Teen period underwear

DD13 hasn't started her periods yet, but I'm expecting them to be mere weeks away, as she has all the signs.

I have two pairs of teen period underwear (Modi Bodi) that I bought a couple of years ago, just so we'd have something in the house.

However, we're off on holiday over Easter, and I'm thinking I should probably have more than two pairs - as she'll need them eventually anyway. As she's still growing, I'd appreciate recommendations for high street period pants. I use M&S which are OK, but a bit old lady-ish (fine for me, suspect DD wouldn't be thrilled).

Any particular not-eyewateringly-expensive brands you or your teen have been pleased with?

DD has modibodi. The original pack of 8 cost about £100 from memory and she still uses them many years later. They have been a godsend for her as she started at 11 in primary school and was very very sensitive to anything rustling, which period pants solved.

Did the ones you bought her at age 11 still fit her many years later? I'm imagining DD might still have quite a lot of growing to do, hence thinking of not investing in the pricey ones just yet.

yes - she got the teen ones (I think they are sort of a size 10) and they are still fine even though she is now 16yrs. I did offer new ones but she said she didn't need them!

nextchapterplease · 24/02/2026 15:14

We also started with and are still using teen modibodi - we have the boy shorts style and they jave proven very reliable . when i bought cheaper ones to supplement them for a trip away when we couldn’t wash them as fast they leaked so i feel that it’s the worth the investment in something she can rely on when new to periods.

redskyAtNigh · 24/02/2026 15:17

Have you had a conversation with your DD about using period pants? I wouldn't assume she is happy to wear them (as opposed to using other types of period products).

Sillybillypoopoomummy · 24/02/2026 15:27

DD sometimes users pads too depending on what she is doing but is very reassured by having the period pants as 'backup' and knowing that she will not leak even if a pad does. I do similar due to very heavy periods and they actually let me sleep for most of a night

Yes of course. And also, like most children her age, she is very conscious of the environment and keen not to put plastic waste into the world when we don't need to.

Period pants are a godsend as they are not only more environmentally friendly but actually easier to manage than other forms of period care.

Thanks - size 10 would swamp DD (though I suspect that she'll end up 8/10), as she's currently a size 0 - she only weighs 35kg, but perfectly healthy, just on the petite side - for now!

My DD likes primark over modibodi and M&S but she does rate the Modibodi for swimwear.

PepperMlntPatty · 24/02/2026 15:53

We bought a mix of Wuka and M&S period pants.

APurpleSquirrel · 24/02/2026 16:00

DD (11) started last summer a few months before her birthday. She actually prefers the M&S or Aldi period pants over the ModiBodi ones. She does wear MB swim pants though (we gave 3 pairs of those). The Aldi ones are quite er… full briefish but I think she prefers the feel of them plus they’re like £9.99 for 3. The M&S ones are a bikini cut I think?
She found the MB ones quite small - had to get her the 16-18yrs - she’s 11 & swims, & isn’t overweight, but they just seemed very small.
Id say DD has about 10-12 pairs which works well in case of flooding, etc

That's helpful, thanks. Didn't realise Aldi did them - I assume it's a special buy rather than everyday item. I will keep my eyes open.

Because I wear M&S (and my husband sorts the laundry), we'd probably get them mixed up unless I can find a different style to the ones I have!

I have just purchased some for dd (11) in similar anticipation, from th at sainsburys. Online rather than in the shop. They seem good quality and value

Yes the Aldi ones are Special Buys - I got them originally as a back up for her, in case I hadn’t washed her others in time but she actually liked them despite their erm.. big pants aesthetic! But for the price they’re good.

bloodredfeaturewall · 24/02/2026 18:28

uniqlo are bomb proof if she turns out to need them.
rovetop has some that have great coverage back and front and are more young in style

FuriousInventions · 24/02/2026 18:32

Another vote for Aldi’s - DD and I both have them and we’ve found them to be comfortable and reliable (and they often go down to £5.99 for 3 pairs at the end of the SpecialBuy week!)

Aliflowers · 24/02/2026 18:44

DD has primark, next and Modi Bodi and TBH don’t think she has any real preference. For the price point the primark are every bit as good. I did buy a pair of modi bodi bikini bottoms for holidays last year as her period was potentially overlapping with the start of the holiday but luckily didn’t need them. They have a shoe side so will be in the case for this year too

MouseCheese87 · 24/02/2026 18:51

Period underwear is not convenient for holidays unless you hav access to a washing machine. Surely you aren't planning on taking all the dirty pairs home with you to wash?

The sort of things that people worry about other people's lives!

Both me and my 13 year old love the wuka ones, especially the boy-short style- the bikini brief style can tend to ride up a bit. They are super stretchy so will grow with her.

constantnc · 25/02/2026 08:07

I got my teen the m&s short ones. Used successfully on holiday recently. Don't forgot perood bathers, we got that from m&s too.
