I am due to get it tomorrow and I am having 2nd thoughts. I had terrible reactions to Covid jabs and had to take time off work. Can anyone please tell me their experience and is it effective

Thanks did you get any other side effects?

I've had it too. I had the same reaction as I do to the annual flu jabs - slightly achy arm and that's it. In comparison I reacted quite badly to the covid jabs where I was ill for weeks. Have the jab OP.

I had it about 15 years ago in my early 30's. Recommended by a private GP that I had at the time, as I have an autoimmune disease. (My specialist was also happy for me to have it.)

No unusual side effects, just a bit achy. I'm glad I had it for the peace of mind.

RestingGrumpFace · 24/02/2026 09:44

I had it earlier this year and it was absolutely fine, no side effects at all beyond a bit of injection site tenderness.

Catisheavyonmylap · 24/02/2026 09:47

Absolutely you want it. It gives you protection to lots of nasty illnesses. I don’t know your circumstances, why you need it, but if you’re being offered then I would take it.

I had it done as I have an autoimmune disease and I’m very pleased I was offered. I don’t remember feeling particularly bad after having it, I think the shingles vaccine floored me more.

Not really no

Does this mean pneumonia? If so, I had it about a month ago with the shingles vaccine at the same time. I have an autoimmune disease, over 60 and never had a problem with jabs before. My arm was horribly painful, I couldn’t drive until a week later as I couldn’t reach out to the controls and my shoulder still aches although it is much better. I’ve got a GP appointment next week in case it hasn’t got better, I will be going. I would say don’t have those two together in the same arm, I wish I hadn’t!

MindYourUsage · 24/02/2026 11:14

I take immune suppressive meds, so I guess I would be allowed this. I didn't know about it tbh. I'll give it some more thought then ask my GP.

I have recently returned from a three day offsite team meeting where someone brought the bloody flu virus with them. Everyone is now sick (with confirmed flu b - they test it in the US), apart from me and one other. Turns out we were the only two who had our flu vaccines......

So yeah, thank goodness I got jabbed!

incompetentcervix · 24/02/2026 13:00

My baby suffered brain damage due to pneumococcal meningitis.
Take the jab. it’s a life saver.

I had the pneumonia vaccine two years ago and had no side effects at all. Just a slightly sore arm.

I did have reactions to the Covid vaccinations - banging headache, feverish, painful arm. But nothing with the pneumonia vaccine.

FadedRed · 24/02/2026 13:16

Just a sore arm and a bit of a headache the next day, otherwise ok.

Travelcrazy · 24/02/2026 13:21

Thanks for all the replies, very reassuring and I will definitely get it done :)
