Hostess gifts?

I wasn't sure which section to put this in! I have a friend who when we all get together always brings a thoughtful gift for the hostess. Eggs from when she kept hens, a little homemade candle, chilli jam or jelly, that sort of thing. It's a lovely idea and I want to start doing the same thing. What can I bring?

How lovely!

I always have a stash of different kinds of cookie dough pre-portioned into scoops in the freezer, so I can whack 6 in the oven and put them in a little square sheet of cellophane and then draw the edges up with ribbon. Always goes down a treat!

Other than that I might double up on a recipe if I’m going to a friends and I know they like what I’m making in the days before going. So fresh pesto in a little jar, a loaf of bread, a batch of brioche buns etc. I find the whimsy more comes in how I package things so have a drawer full of ribbons/fun paper bags to make the gifts look ‘cute’.

I make a note in the back of my journal when friends & family mention that they like something in particular. When I'm out shopping, I look for something linked to what they like. e.g. one of my friends mentioned that she loves tulips and I was able to find a pretty mug with an embossed tulip design on it.

I have also made little cross stitch pictures in an embroidery hoop with an initial or picture

I agree with the PP above about the packaging ~ how something is presented makes all the difference

What does she like? Things that are lovely for some are not for others. Personally I wouldn’t like homemade biscuits, chutney (any homemade food really!), crafty knickknacks, chocolate, homeware, etc. I would really appreciate some of my favourite flowers/wine/plant. Also don’t be fooled that if they’ve brought something they like it themselves, I often buy things for people I know they would like but I’d hate! Personalisation is key!!
