she was rushing to grab a top for her club

I was closing the bedroom door she was ahead of me
seconds later she is at the bottom of the stairs

she has a small lump on her head just home from a and e

im so annoyed with myself

past few months we had been practising safe walking down the stairs and holding my hand when I'm with her
we only moved recently

is it crazy to have soft mats at the bottom of the stairs now

Yes it's crazy. For one a lot of the damage done when falling downstairs happens on the way down not by hitting the floor at the end when normally you've slowed down a bit. Secondly she's 4 she got a shock and it hurt, I doubt she will be doing it again anytime soon. Unless there are any additional needs you haven't mentioned.

she has never had a fall like this before thankfully

never been to a and.e

I just feel like utter shit now

What needed a visit to A&E?

At 4 years old I think that is a bit OTT to practice safe walking (that’s more like something I’d do with an 18MO) and to be considering mats. I’d honestly just let them get on with it so long as they weren’t sliding down the bannister or doing anything totally ridiculous and accept that accidents can and do happen sometimes. DS broke his wrist falling down the stairs at age 3. It wasn’t preventable really. It healed. All is fine.

wanted to get her checked out

I rang the GP surgery and they advised to do so

Yeah not unreasonable at all to get her checked out at a+e. Bizarre response from someone upthread about that. There’s falling down a couple of stairs and falling down a flight which are obviously different. If you were concerned about head injury then of course you did the right thing to take her to a+e.
she will be ok though - this will probably make her take more care in future

thank you for that

I wanted to ensure she was ok
hence the a and e trip

it was her first trip to a and e

new house

last house had no stairs
hence why we were working on getting down safely over the past few weeks

will know for again
