If you were to see one West End Show

What would it be?

I’ve never seen a West End show as it’s never been something that looked like I’d enjoy it.

DH loves them so I’m thinking about going to see one.

Which one, out of all of them, would you recommend I go and see?

I’d prefer great music, something upbeat and I like the thought of the cast dancing and singing in the aisles.

We would be going in June.

Thank you!

Cabaret is good and you can get tables down by the stage - the action happens around you.

tinytemper66 · 23/02/2026 21:27

Going up to London on the weekend to see the 🦁 👑

Wonderknicks · 23/02/2026 21:28

It's hard to recommend just one thing as we are all different. I didn't like Hamilton at all.
Does it have to be a musical?
Mamma Mia is fun, Cabaret good, wicked too. So many to choose from. What type of thing do you like? No pint in recommending Mamma Mia if you can't bear Abba!

Moulin Rouge is my current favourite.

Going to see Jesus Christ Super Star in July. Can't wait.

Hamilton is my favourite (at the moment) but Book of Mormon really had me laughing lots. Phantom is a beautiful classic. My all time favourite is les mis but that’s quite heavy - I love history (probably why I also loved Hamilton). I definitely want to see Beetlejuice but also need to save money 😭

tirednessreigns · 23/02/2026 21:29

Les mis, Oliver
i didn’t rate moulin rouge. Lion king used to be amazing but didnt enjoy it as much last year. Didn’t help that people were talking over the start though!

Twodogsisbetterthanone · 23/02/2026 21:30

Billy Elliott was the best musical ever. It’s coming back to the west end but not til 2027

Toosoon12345 · 23/02/2026 21:30

Cabaret 100%

CmonBobby · 23/02/2026 21:31

Hamilton is jaw droppingly amazing as a piece of art and my favourite musical of all but I would listen to one or two of the songs on Spotify first to check you like the style. A couple of my older relatives got overwhelmed with it.

kittybloom · 23/02/2026 21:31

Les Mis or Hamilton

thank you all, appreciate the responses.

We love stranger things so that is an option. I thought Lion King may be mentioned but the footage I’ve seen doesn’t look that impressive. Maybe you need to be there.

I do love the film Moulin Rouge. I also loved the Greatest Showman, which was a surprise.

I went to see Moulin Rouge with 6 adults from early 20s to 50s and everyone said it was the very best show they’d ever seen in the theatre .

Pinkchilli · 23/02/2026 21:33

Hamilton is amazing visual experience the best thing I’ve ever seen. It is hip hop and very fast paced but so intense and emotional it’s amazing. Seen it twice and would go again in heartbeat.

Don't see The Devil Wears Prada. Quite poor.

We loved the devil wears prada !

Would I like it if I don't like hip hop?

Listen to Magic Musicals for a few days. See what songs you enjoy most.

Last year the highlight show (out of the four we saw) was Moulin Rouge.
This year we are seeing Six and Operation Mincemeat, and I am really excited for them.

Lots of others on my list to book, but a toddler and an Australia trip to pay for this year means making bookings is a bit tough.

SparklyBlueDress · 23/02/2026 21:36

Moulin rouge or mamma Mia gets my vote (also frozen was fantastic but not sure it’s still on)

SquirrelFan · 23/02/2026 21:38

I loved Book of Mormon, but don't go if you are religious/easily offended. Hamilton was great but took a lot of concentration--deffo not a 'dancing in the aisles' experience.
Matilda is wonderful, great music, but again, not 'dancing in the aisles.'

Ophy83 · 23/02/2026 21:39

Les Mis and Hamilton are fantastic but I wouldn't describe either as upbeat. Same for Wicked and Phantom actually. Of those I've seen I think Mamma Mia best needs your description. The one I want to see, which may also do so, is Titanique

Beautifulsunflowers · 23/02/2026 21:42

Saw six recently and loved it! Really great catchy lyrics and very energetic, it’s a short show so could be a good one to start with.
As a pp has said, listen to a few of the songs before choosing, there’s so many and there will be one that suits you!

neversaynevereverforever · 23/02/2026 21:44

Les Mis or Lion King both absolutely brilliant!

Oceangrey · 23/02/2026 21:44

I found the lion king boring although good costumes.

I would see Hadestown but have heard good things on Starlight Express. Stranger Things was good too.

MsSmartShoes · 23/02/2026 21:47

I find musicals a little squirmy, but I would like to see Oliver as I adore the novel and the film.

GreenEyesIsBack · 23/02/2026 21:47

Les Mis or Phantom.

BunnyBerries · 23/02/2026 21:47

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child because later in the year they are converting it from the original two-parter into a one-parter, so you won’t be able to see the original production anymore and it is currently superb.

sweatyhotlady · 23/02/2026 21:48

Moulin Rouge
