How much £ is WFH worth to you?

How much money would you sacrifice to never have to travel to an office for work?

Currently considering a 20% pay cut to be fully remote. I am a high earner for what it's worth and currently travel a far amount plus regular office days.

I think it depends if you need the money. Obviously if someone is struggling to get by already a pay cut won’t be worth it. That isn’t the case to you but what lifestyle changes would you need to make short or long term (pension contributions long term investments and savings etc as well as long term career goals) if you lose that income.

how much would you be losing in terms of per hour. So for example what is your hourly rate factoring in time you are travelling, vs what your hourly rate is in the new job, is it actually similar?

personally if I could afford it yes, I’d prefer to be home and with my children more for almost any cost.

I do 1-2 days per week in the office and that costs me £100 per day in wrap around care and travel. I’m not a high earner (50k), but my husband is (300k) and he’s considering leaving his role (full time office) for better work life balance. Not sure what value he’ll place on that but I’d imagine he’d consider around 25% reduction for a hybrid role.

I was remote with one day every couple of weeks in the office, and changed my job to be 100% back in the office. Terrible mistake. I’d give anything to go back to home working. It costs me £30 a week in petrol and takes me an hour a day in travelling. That would equate to £120 a week alone. Factor in the costs of vehicle wear and tear and then being everyone’s dogsbody as you’re always in the office and I’d say it’s worth £150 a week (to me). So over the year the best part of £8k.

Thanks for all the comments. The thread has actually made me realise it's not so much about the money as work/life balance which doesn't actually mean being home all the time! I think I might go stir crazy at home full time so that's a big one for me.

Easily £30k. For one thing, my commute costs me £1400 per month. Add tax and other life stuff on to that and it's an absolute no brainer.

I do a lot in the evenings and weekends so don't feel stir crazy at all. I do have lots of meetings as well though so not in complete silence all day!
