Hangover question.... Different with different person/s?

If I drink more than one or two (sometimes even then!) I have quite bad hangovers. Groggy, sleepy, sick feeling, uncoordinated just generally feeling crap. I try to be careful with alcohol due to this, it just isn't worth it! Even though I do love a nice wine or glass of fizz.

I have one friend however, whom if I drink with, even quite a lot more than usual (we go to festivals or have events together etc) I NEVER get one.

She stayed here last night and we went to the pub for a couple to celebrate something. Stayed a lot longer than usual as bumped into some other friends of mine. I must've had 5 or 6 drinks!

Absolutely fine today. Slept well, no sick feeling, up early and out with the dog, feel absolutely normal and like a normal day where I haven't drank at all.

Is this some sort of chemistry, 'safe' feeling? Can anyone relate?

Is when you meet up or the speed you drink at together? I have a totally different reaction from drinking on a Friday compared to Saturday because the latter is usually a lot slower and I’m better rested.

I don't know, but i don't believe so.

You may be right with the 'better rested' thing however n terms of being very relaxed in her company and she's very laid back, so unlike other friends very little stress or rushing about. I just realised it recently and am finding it very puzzling!

Weird! Could you maybe be having more soft drinks with her, drinking slower, having foods that slow down your absorption, choosing a different drink that you can handle better?

Just be aware that low alcohol tolerance can be a symptom of impaired liver function (NAFLD). Consider asking your GP about getting your liver function tested especially if you haven't always been like this.

I had my liver function tested years ago after a few years of a lot of partying (university and then the sort of job where It's normal to be in a drinking culture) and it was fine, but you may be right, perhaps I should look at it again albeit for different reasons.

But as for my friend and when I drink with her, still in a state of puzzlement! It must be some sort of 'stress free' chemistry-based thing I think, although when I am alone I sometimes call in the local pub for a couple of glasses of wine and sometimes even that induces a headache and I can't say that I am ever stressed or have a heightened state of mind when I do that, either.
