Dehumidifer and heated clothes airer to dry clothes

I am sick of all of the rain. Currently I use a dehumidifier to help dry clothes indoors. It is great but I am looking at speeding up the process if I can. I am considering a heated clothes airer and to use the two of them together.

I have calculations for my dehumidifier already and it's .23p an hour using laundry mode. A clothes airer is 300w approx. A rough calculation might be .10p an hour.

It would be great if I could get clothes dry quickly and within 2 hours if I can.

Does anyone else use a dehumidifier and heated clothes airer together to dry laundry indoors. How long does it take to dry clothes?

Just got a dehumidifier works well even overnight when house 11c
but we set it up a a room that we don’t really use and door left shut

also dehumidifier is a 20L extraction one

I put my heated airer near the corner of a room surrounded by one of those hinged plastic airers and then the dehumidifier - with a double bedsheet over the top of everything.
It depends what you are drying but it's at least a couple of hours.

I do and its much quicker. I use in my utility and find it reduces damp in the room too.

I don't but my DD never puts the heating on, so i got her a decent dehumidifier.
But her clothes were smelling of damp, so got her a heated airer and cover from lakeland and her clothes dry quickly and don't have that mildewy smell any more

Yes, have a dessicant dehumidifier and a cheap heated airer. I put the dehumidifier next to the airer and throw an old sheet over the top. Works well.

I use both all the time, but it takes a lot longer than 2h.

I’m confused by your decimal point - do you mean 10p an hour or 0.1p an hour? I can’t imagine you could run a heated airer for 10 hours for just 1p or else everyone would be doing it. But if it only heats intermittently to bring it up to the required temperature, then it could be less than 10p an hour as it wouldn’t be on all the time.

I use a 12l dehumidifier with an unheated rack and then leave it for about 8 hours or overnight. Haven’t tried a heated rack but I suspect the drying will be patchy depending on which parts of the fabric are in contact with the rack. If your priority is speed, I think you’d be better off with a tumble dryer.

Yes dehumidifier will dry clothes quicker. We put them in a room with the door shut and on a normal dryer not heated. They dry quickly over night or during day

The best thing to speed up the drying alongside your dehumidifier is a basic electric fan. It does not need to be heated. Just moving the air will help a lot. As you probably already have one for hot summer days, just dig it out and give a try before you spend more money on something else.

We do this - our dehumidifier has a fan setting which helps. The laundry room is very small .
my top tip is to put a self expanding curtain poles above the drying rack ( heat rises) and to hang all the t shirts shirts , dresses trousers etc up. The smaller things like pants socks shorts go on the rack dehumidifier is pointed at the rack .
We can get through 2 loads of washing in 24 hours this way. I put bedding on the rack . I tumble dry towels and very heavy things .

Consider a laundry/kitchen maid from the ceiling. Heat rises and should dry them faster. We are considering this ourselves to free up floor space as I'm sick of looking at all the washing!

rainandshine38 · 23/02/2026 07:36

We have a ceiling rack on a pulley and a dehumidifier. It works a treat.

Duckingpondlake · 23/02/2026 07:37

I have a wall hung airer so everything goes on hangers above the dehumidifier, it works so efficiently. The while set up is next to a radiator so when the heating is on shirts, smalls etc dry in an hour

Heated airer with a cover and a dehumidifier. There are 5 of us so we have a lot of washing. Definitely takes longer than 2 hours to dry. I tend to do my washing in the morning, fill up the airer and it’s all dry the following morning.

saltandvinegarpringles · 23/02/2026 08:26

We have a heated airer with a cover - dries a load of laundry in 2-3 hours depending on on what’s in there.
