EBF baby with potential CMPA

I want to mix feed as I’m finding the breastfeeding too much but I’ve had to cut out dairy as 6 week old might have CMPA.
Its been a week and a half now and symptoms havent really subsided.
Not sure what to do….
Anyone else experienced the same? X

It takes at least 3 weeks for the effects of going dairy free to fully come through if you are bf.

However, it could be an allergy to something else. DS2 had the same symptoms as ds1 (who had cmpa), but reacted to eggs instead. You may need to try an elimination diet.

If it is cmpa and you want to introduce a bottle, you will need to use the formula which has no milk, which is quite unpalatable so it may be difficult to get your dc to take it.

Sorry you are going through this, it's really tough!

I will keep going dairy free but my mental
health is also something I need to be on top of and I know I need to combi feed.
The breastfeeding is making very anxious and on edge, I need the break x

My 10 month old has multiple food allergies, including egg, milk, soya and tree nuts. I didn't even know he was allergic until I started weaning him, which resulted in swelling and hives etc from the tiniest amounts of food. He was exclusively breastfed too. It's hard to avoid everything he's sensitive to. Missing the cheese definitely.
It's messing with my mind too thinking that I'm harming him through what I eat and therefore what's in my milk. I sympathise.

I’m sorry you’re facing this.

have you spoken to a breastfeeding helpline or gone to a breastfeeding group. It might help to talk through how you’re feeling as well as a plan for going forward.

With CMPA you would need specialist formula on prescription but the baby may react to this as well.

I combo fed a CMPA baby and tbh I wish I didn’t. My baby would always be sick after his bottle and that formula stank.

Would expressing be an option? Using a Haakaa or similar to express while feeding might help.

Do you get feelings of anger, depression, anxiety while feeding? If so it could be something called DMER.

Hi OP,

What symptoms was is that you were experiencing with your baby?

With mine it was awful eczema, reflux and constant crying and being in pain ☹️

I was told I would need to be dairy free (and soya free) for at least 3-4 weeks before I saw a significant improvement, and it did take that long.
