I dont mean in the first flush when bedtimes mean lots of passion but later when you are settled together.
We dont watch tv but our idea of a nice bedtime is OH is busy playing Candy Crush on his phone, i am reading a murder true life book probably plucking my chin at the same time usually with a tasty pack of biscuits between us!
or maybe we are odd?

If you're up at 6am I would say what's wrong with it?

I love getting my PJs on around 6pm, settling the children around 7 pm for bed, lounging on their beds reading their bedtime stories then head down for supper 8pm then get into bed any time from 8.30pm/9pm and listen to audiobooks. Light out 10pm roughly.

Everyone has their own routine depending on their own circumstances. I love lighting candles at night around 8pm.

DH goes to bed around 10.30pm.

There is nothing wrong with it. I realise everyone needs different amounts of sleep I just don't know anyone who goes to bed that early, even very early risers.

saveforthat · 20/02/2026 17:35

I also can't imagine eating a meal in pajamas unless it's breakfast.

I eat breakfast fully dressed usually as I shower just after 6am.

😱

Omg! You are so going to regret plucking your chin 🙈

Yikes why? I pluck the odd dark wiry one!

user1476613140 · 20/02/2026 17:38

I eat dinner 4pm usually due to various extra curricular clubs running at stupid times so everyone has a hearty meal and supper is usually ant time between 6 and 8pm.

holjam · 20/02/2026 17:40

I usually go to bed between 9-10pm, read my book before sleep. Husband will come up around 11.30ish.

GoldilocksIsALittleSod · 20/02/2026 17:40

I'm another one in bed by 9pm! My alarm goes of at 4.45am on a working day so I am absolutely exhausted by 9!
I might listen to a podcast for a bit (true crime/horror or paranormal 🤣) whilst I drift off but I'm usually asleep by 9.15pm.
That's only 7.5 hours of sleep so it's not like I'm lying in bed for 12 hours a day🤷‍♀️

Dr13Hadley · 20/02/2026 17:42

It depends what day it is and whether there is footy on the TV that DH and DS1 will watch downstairs but tonight for example we’ll encourage the kids into their rooms by about 8.30 for lights out around 9-9.30 (ages 9 and 12 and up for footy at 7.30am tomorrow) and we’ll watch tv until about 10ish then come up and DH will watch nonsense on his iPad and I’ll read for a bit then put on an audiobook and go to sleep.
I like to be in bed by 9pm during the week as I’m up for work at 5am.

rainbowunicorn22 · 20/02/2026 17:46

i go to bed anytime from 6 to 8 and OH joins me 8 up until 10. we get up when we wake which can be anytime from 6.
I have to pluck my beard or else it would be a mile long in no time!

We have a TV in our room but we very rarely switch it on. We tend to go to bed quite early, 9.30 most days. I'll listen to the radio or an Amazon music playlist and do a couple of crosswords or play mahjong solitaire online (ridiculously addictive). I'll scroll through some shit on my ipad for a bit, Mumsnet, Insta. Then I'll try and read a chapter of whatever book I am currently reading, but I can't get through more than about 3 pages of an actual book without my eyes drooping.

DH watches reels and youtube videos on his phone, things like the Steven Bartlett Diary of a CEO interviews which are really interesting, Ted Talks, lots of stuff about business, science, space, tech, AI (his current obsession) or health and fitness, yoga. He has his ear buds in. We usually go to sleep after about an hour of this.

TheSmallAssassin · 20/02/2026 17:47

After eating and clearing up we sit on the sofa together and watch telly with the cats (and probably scroll on our phones if it's not something we're properly watching), wine and snacks if it's the weekend. One of us will say "time for bed" about 11pm, then stay a bit longer, then "Right, we really must go to bed". Sometimes we read a bit, but fairly regularly one of us takes a bit longer to get ready for bed (I am especially bad for faffing) so the light is already off by the time the other one comes to bed. I read a couple of pages of my Kindle in the dark, then cuddle up to my husband before going to sleep. We do try to be in bed by midnight, but we aren't great at it.

SummerInSun · 20/02/2026 17:59

Watch 20 minutes of TV together with a final hot drink, then teeth and into bed to read for ten minutes or so and then lights out. I should say that 20 min is usually our only TV time sir g the week, as we both tend to work or do life admin in the window between cleaning up from dinner and bed. I’d love to get to bed earlier and read for longer.

PregnantPumpkin · 20/02/2026 17:59

patooties · 20/02/2026 17:05

Same. I don’t know anyone in bed at that time!

I'm co sleeping with our little one so get into bed around half 7 and usually go to sleep at quarter to 9, it's great 😂

Don't you find that you have no idea what's going on with your audio book because you always end up falling asleep and missing bits?

I'm shocked at how early people are going to bed. 9pm for an adult?

I was thinking the same.

abracadabra1980 · 20/02/2026 19:02

Another 8/9pm bedtimer! As a lifelong insomniac, I just need peace and quiet for a couple of hours before I can sleep and my sofa doesn't cut it for my back pain. I often sleep in 'split shifts' so about 10-1 then 4-7. Not great but better than nothing and I enjoy late night radio or a podcast. I also live alone and am semi retired so can please myself and the dogs entirely! Wine and/or tea and chocolates occasionally come up too. Happy days 😊

Meadowfinch · 20/02/2026 19:08

Being single, I crawl off the sofa at 11, quick kitchen tidy up, then up to bed to stretch in solitary bliss the whole length of the bed.

Read until my eyelids get heavy. Have the room at exactly the right temperature with the window open a crack. Sleep deeply for seven hours, undisturbed by anyone snoring, going to the loo, spooning, fidgeting, kicking or stealing the duvet. 😴

That's exactly what I do. Another lifelong insomniac here. Unless I've taken Nightol I will generally wake up somewhere between 2 or 3 and frequently don't get back to sleep until 5.00. Luckily I don't need to get up before 8 so I manage to catch up somehow but it is a PITA. I am always ridiculously pleased with myself if I've managed an unbroken nights sleep without the aid of drugs.

ShakyBake · 20/02/2026 21:00

Quick tidy of the house, plump the cushions on sofa, turn the electricals off and lower the thermostat (both of which I can adjust on phone). Face and teeth and if I'm feeling peckish I will take a jar of pickled onions up and a fork.

Flannelfeet · 20/02/2026 17:10

You would be very shocked at me then because im in bed for 8pm. I have terrible insomnia and my brain starts going when its bed time so I have to go to bed early to at least try and get some sleep before the 6am alarm 😔

Not to add in the jaggy legs and the tinnitus and fibromyalgia. Brutal! 😫

Foxybyname · 20/02/2026 22:00

@GoldilocksIsALittleSod sorry to derail the thread but any True Crime podcast recommendations please?!

abracadabra1980 · 21/02/2026 08:36

@HeadDeskHeadDesk - You are my insomiac twin! I've made light of it here but I've been in a deplorable mental state before over it, so I'm glad I was at my worst (ie having to function with young kids/single parent and run my business), when GP's still gave out Zimovane and Diazepam-which calmed down my wired adrenaline when I couldn't cope. Don't know how I'd deal with it now as if one more suggestion for CBT or mindfulness and I'd scream. When I'm absolutely desperate now, I pour myself a large glass of red wine, with a slice of cheese, and usually I get another hour without the hangover. Not great but desperation can prevail!

1000StrawberryLollies · 21/02/2026 08:49

Bed between 10 and 10:30. Dh and I both read for maybe 20-ish minutes, then lights off. No phones, tv or food in the bedroom (not a policy as such - just not things I've ever done).
