Has anyone ever sold gold? Experiences?

I was reading yesterday about the price of gold being at a high. I have a chunky solid gold bangle that belonged to my mum that I have no sentimental attachment to that I’m thinking of selling to put towards some therapy my DS needs.

Had anyone ever sold gold? What checks did you do to make sure place was reputable/not a rip off? Obviously I’m reading online reviews and so on…

Thanks!

Yes, I did this when moving house the year before last. I had a whole lot of bits and bobs that had been sitting in a jewellery box, unloved for years. I read reviews plus looked at a couple of places recommended on Martin Lewis Money Saving Website. I finally picked one, weighed my jewellery and they sent me a quote and a bag to post the jewellery in.

I half expected once I sent my stuff that they'd backtrack and lower the offer but the opposite happened. One piece was 18ct rather than the 9 ct I'd thought so they actually increased the offer! The money was in my account the day after I posted my stuff. All in all a very easy process that netted me £1400 ish.

I should also add that I also approached some local jewellers, who offered me a great deal less!

I sold some on eBay. I weighed it accurately and knew the price per gram and sold it for what I wanted

Gordon Brown did.

'Between 1999 and 2002, then-Chancellor Gordon Brown sold roughly 395 tonnes of UK gold reserves at an average price of around $275 per ounce, near a 20-year low. This decision, known as "Brown's Bottom," aimed to diversify reserves but has been criticized for missing out on a 16-fold increase in value, with potential losses now estimated at over £35–£40 billion.'

The postal company?

Yes, although I believe they have actual premises too.

I used their postal service as I'm no where near Birmingham.

As well as my own experience, they have excellent Trustpilot reviews. I was quite apprehensive about selling gold through the post, but it really couldn't have been easier.
