Silver caps on 4yr old daughters teeth

I have been told my 4 year old daughter needs two silver caps to protect her teeth. I am so sad that I have let her down, my other daughter who is 18months older has never had a single issue with her teeth. The dentist says it’s down to prolonged use of a milk bottle at night. Both have always attended 6 monthly dental appointments and I have always brushed their teeth twice a day without fail. My question is are there any UK mums whose children have had silver caps/you know any children with them in the UK? I have never heard or seen children with them and didn’t realise it was a thing. Google seems to bring up mainly USA posts about them. Thank you, P

My child has a cap on one of his molars due to weak enamel. It cost £100 but I paid for him to have a white one. Is that an option?

Thank you for reply, they haven’t mentioned being able to have white ones. That would definitely be something we would do. Was that in the UK? We are Birmingham

How old was your son Ohples? Would they do it on a 4 year old purely for cosmos reasons? We would happily pay

Speak to your dentist. This isn’t done enough for little children in UK, and more needs to be done by NHS dentists to avoid children having to have GAs and all their teeth pulled cos they are rotten and in pain. This action helps protect the adult teeth coming through next, so don’t worry, clinical evidence is this is the best thing for your child’s health. I appreciate you won’t like how it looks but it’s shorter term and for the better oral health of your child. I don’t think white ones will offer the same level of future protection and white caps in one so little is much more involved. Stainless crowns will be best for them at their age.

They are also called Hall crowns - I think NHS has recently published something about paying dentists better to encourage more provision where needed in kids? but you’ll need to google to find out more. Good luck!

Thank you for your reply Surfer, that’s very informative. I’ll do some more research

I don’t know if you had them in the end but my 7 year old has had two since she was 5, only one or two children have noticed and they asked if she’s rich because she has silver teeth so it’s actually not caused any bullying or issues. No one else either notices or has mentioned it
