Snacks for children

What snacks do you feed your children? My 7 year old DNephew loves dips with bread, nectarines, oranges, hot cross buns, Warburtons thins with peanut butter. Cakes and crisps of course!

He hates cucumber and dates.

All that sort of thing. Cheese cubes, carrot sticks, yoghurts, sausage rolls, bananas. In terms of pre-packaged food - mini breadsticks, oatcakes, Nakd bars (they have nuts though so they can't take to school).

We don't do processed meat or they'd have pepperami/fridge raiders as well, might be an option if you're less fussy than us.

That sounds similar to what his parents feed him but also watermelon.

Fruit is always on offer but (unless it's berries) often ignored because it's always an option. Kids like a menu (and I point out they don't live in a cafe). 😆 Sometimes it's just 'what's in the fridge'. Are you feeding your nephew and wondering what to give him? As it sounds like you have a fairly good understanding of what he has already - easiest to just go with that.

I’m asking as he’s coming over this weekend for a day and wanted to know what others fed their kids for snacks.

Yes I am asking as I don’t know quite what to give him. Cakes are out a bit but we made one yesterday. Sweets and chocolate also out though I gave him a small bit of my milk chocolate Lindtor bar yesterday. He loved that!

Most of the time I try to stick to snacks of fruit, cheese, oatcakes or something like peanut butter on toast for a larger snack for my primary school aged DDs. The fruit bowl is the default if they're hungry between meals.

That said, if someone is doing me the favour of looking after my children then they can give them whatever is easiest or most convenient for them. If that's crisps and chocolate then fine.

Not all kids snack constantly and many do because it is a carby or sweet treat.

If only one day stick with fruit (apple or banana) and make sure he enjoys his meals so doesn’t need a snack. Or ask parents if he’s likely to need something between meals.
