Redundancy at 58 want to start again, what can I do next? College courses abound. Previously I was an EA office manager.

what would you do if you had a chance for a new career?

It depends on what you can do: are you looking for the traditional 9 - 5 Mon to Fri? Full time or Part time? Do you need flexible working? Are you willing to work “out of hours” i.e nights, weekends, bank holidays.

Are you wanting a complete change from admin/assistant work? Could you see yourself in a caring role? A TA in school or helping adults in residential setting?

Answering those questions will help people give you some inspiration.

If I had the time I’d learn BSL with the plan to interpret.

EA = estate agent, environment agency, something else?

TBH, I'd probably look for an office manager role in a different kind of business, if you're eager for a change. You're getting pretty close to retirement age, so a complete change of direction would probably mean a much lower salary, which isn't great when you probably want to be maxing out your pension contributions. So can you afford to take a big financial hit by starting over? If not, you probably need to keep doing what you're experienced at doing.

EA in my case is Executive Assistant

i fancy a change, can handle a drop in salary, I want out of the 9-5 office and commute but don’t want to do any night work

I did BSL level 1 a few years back before COVID so that’s actually something I’d like to pick up again

just wondered what everyone else is doing? 😜

What came to my mind for you is personal assistant for busy 2 working parent families. Get 2-3 local families, one day a week each. Either their house or phone/online from yours to their preference. Research purchases or tradespeople, collect/return orders, plan and book holidays, that type of thing.

I’d love that- great idea

look for an EA role that allows WFH? Ideally academia so you get long holidays?
