Advice with easyjet luggage please

Planning a break for 5 days, to a city near the sea. Will be doing lots of walking, sightseeing, swimming , the usual. Won't be dressing up but menopausal and appreciate a clean tee shirt when feeling sweaty. Possibly going to an Airbnb without toiletries and towels. Also like taking our own pillows, 1 each on holiday ( i know i know)....
So flying with easyjet, do you reckon we could be doing with 1 checked in suitcase? I can't see how 2 smaller cabin bags would be enough for us but any advice welcome, we haven't been abroad for years.

We are on a tight budget too.

I’ve done a 5 day city break with just cabin bags and it was fine. Take your pillow on the plane to avoid putting it in the case. It’s easier now the liquid rules are relaxing too.
The cost of a checked in bag each way is eye watering! It wasn’t worth it for a short trip.

Would they allow us to take a normal sized memory foam pillow on the plane though?
And we'll need a towel each for swimming.

Easyjet also charge for cabin baggage - the 'free' one is whatever fits under the seat in front.

Ginmonkeyagain · 16/02/2026 11:59

Get those Turkish Hamman towels for swimming - they fold up very small and can also be used as a sarong or a wrap.

I don't think you'll be able to get a memory foam pillow in Easyjet cabin baggage TBH. You may just have to suck that one up.

As for bath towels in the apartment - is it in France - sometimes you have to ask and pay extra for towels and linen in French rental apartments - it is a thing.

We did 5 nights in Paris with a cabin sized bag each (2 adults, teen and tween with a bag each) plus we paid for one large cabin bag (took a small suitcase). However taking towels and pillows is going to make space tight.
I think either pay for one hold bag or don’t take the pillows and book somewhere with towels provided. One rolled up beach towel each should be manageable in cabin bags.

NannyR · 16/02/2026 12:17

If you would be paying for check in luggage so you could take pillows - would it work out cheaper to buy pillows there or order them to be delivered to your accommodation?

Bjorkdidit · 16/02/2026 12:20

Unless your pillows compress, they're going to take it a huge amount of room. So you have to decide whether it's worth the cost of taking them with you.

But without the pillows, one hold case between 2 alongside your small carry on might be enough. Pillows don't weigh much so you might be able to take quite a large case with two pillows, clothes and toiletries in and be enough for 5 days and within the weight limit and you've also got your carry on.

If you don't already have a suitable case, Morrisons had cheap lightweight suitcases a couple of weeks ago, I think the biggest was about £30-40 and the quality looked decent.

flightyfighter · 16/02/2026 12:37

We often check in one hold bag for the two of us. It helps to have those packing cubes to separate out the clothes etc if sharing a bag. Carry on only is doable (and less money) but ditch the pillow! I've done a two week holiday to a hot country with just carry on but took a sarong as a beach 'towel' and travel sized toileteries. Bought some things out there and left them for staff.

JacknDiane · 16/02/2026 21:32

Thanks, we'd definitely ditch the pillows!

We're sadly probably going to forget an abroad holiday. We've been pricing it up and we can't afford what we want. We dont want a package holiday or just to sit and drink in the sun. If only, we could afford that in a shitty resort somewhere in a cheap hotel. But that would bore us rigid. We want to go to Nice and travel up and down the coast and visit lovely places. And swim in the sea and have coffee sitting and people watching. Staying somewhere in Central Nice thats half decent. But even less than a week its adding up to too much.

Its crap when you cant get away isn't it.

But thanks again for all my replies here.

Noce is very expensive - have you tried other areas of Southern France? The Med coast between Montpelier and Perpignan is a lot more affordable.

Ginmonkeyagain · 17/02/2026 06:22

Nice not Noce!

Looks at towns among to coast to Spain - Beziers, Narbonne, Sete, Perpignan. All great.places and much cheaper than Nice and all within reach of beaches and the sea.

PurBal · 17/02/2026 06:36

Check your luggage and don’t pay for the large cabin bag. Sometimes a checked bag is cheaper than the large cabin bag anyway.

Johnogroats · 17/02/2026 06:57

I’m going to Ireland shortly for 6 days and am taking an under the seat bag and will make it all fit in. It won’t be a fashion parade 😂.

Sorry you don’t think Nice will work OP but agree it is a v expensive part of France. We went to Cagliari Sardinia for a long weekend and found that pretty reasonable. Or the French coast nearer the Spanish border may be better. Another thought might be to go inland and stay near a lake - you’ll find the costs drop dramatically.

Motheroftheb · 17/02/2026 07:15

Nice is a really expensive area. Why not explore other options of cities by the sea and see how prices compare?

Malaga
Cadiz
Marseille
Perpignan
Valencia
Faro (has a train station so is easy to get to other towns along the coast, Tavira is wonderful)
